💡 Marketing campaigns are launching to bring more players into the Splinterlands universe, with promising strategies shared in the latest Town Hall.
🌍 Land 1.75 is coming soon. While I haven't invested much in land, this update is set to strengthen the game’s economy and provide new opportunities for players in the #play2earn.
Splinterlands is so deep and vast that no one has enough resources to master it all—there aren't enough cards to own every strategy, not enough land to control the economy, not enough SPS to stake for every opportunity. The game constantly challenges us to make choices, adapt, and find our own path to victory.
Splinterlands is not just about choosing strong cards—it’s about understanding game mechanics, making smart decisions, and adapting to different battles. In this strategy series, we will explore key tactics grouped by important concepts.
This series will focus on five essential aspects of high-level gameplay:
🔥 Offense – Dealing damage and breaking through defenses.
🛡️ Defense – Reducing incoming damage and keeping your team alive.
🤝 Support – Using buffs, healing, and team synergy.
⚔️ Control – Disrupting opponents and taking control of the battle.
🎯 Positioning – Placing monsters wisely to maximize their effectiveness.
The content will increase in complexity step by step, making it useful for both new and experienced players. Above all, it is designed to help new players understand the depth of Splinterlands and build effective strategies from the start.
In Splinterlands, just like in football—where strikers win games, but defenders win championships—a strong offense may bring quick victories, but a solid defense is what secures long-term success. That’s why we start with Defense & Damage Mitigation—because surviving the fight is just as important as winning it! 🛡️🔥Let’s begin with one of the most important aspects of the game as I have created an ilustrative to guide the concepts I will speak about:
Before sending your team into battle, take a moment to plan—because in Splinterlands, strategy begins before the fight even starts. A strong defense is not just about choosing tough monsters; it is about predicting damage, selecting counters, and adapting to different battle situations.
Here are three important steps to consider when preparing your defense:
Before selecting your lineup, analyze the type of attacks you might receive. Ask yourself:
Any information you gather will help you make better choices.
Once you understand what kind of damage you might face, think about where it will hit:
By understanding the direction of the incoming damage, you can position your team more effectively.
Now that you have a strategy, it’s time to select the right counter:
💡 Tip: Never underestimate magic damage! a strong magic team can break through unprotected defenses with ease and melt your entire army.
Your frontline monsters take the most damage, so choosing the right tank is essential for survival. A good tank should have damage reduction, durability, or abilities that allow it to grow stronger over time.
🛡️ Shield – Reduces melee and ranged damage, making it more resistant to physical attacks.
🌀 Void – Lowers magic damage taken, making it an effective counter against magic-based teams.
⚡ Void Armor – Allows armor to absorb magic damage before it reaches the monster’s health.
🔮 Block – Reduces damage from the first melee attack received, adding extra durability at the start of battle.
To show what I mean I will bring one of the toughest couple of the current modern meta: Mycellic and Inmortalis. They are a tough front able to mitigate every single damage incoming to half. This couple have brought tons of SPS to my bank account! ⚔️🔥Battle
Some monsters rely on evasion abilities to dodge attacks and become much harder to hit. These mechanics are especially useful for avoiding melee, ranged, and even magic damage, giving your team a defensive edge.
💨 Dodge – Increases evasion by 25%, reducing the chance of being hit by melee and ranged attacks.
🦅 Flying – Grants extra evasion against non-Flying units, making it harder for grounded enemies to land attacks, increasing their evasion by 25%
🔮 Phase – Allows a monster to dodge magic attacks, making it an effective counter to spellcasters.
Can evasion win a battle? Absolutely, yes! A well-timed dodge can be the difference between victory and defeat, allowing your monsters to survive longer and outlast opponents. Take a look at this Noa the Just outperformance—proof that avoiding damage and returning it tou your opponent is double damage taken!! battle🏆🏃♂️🔥
Healing abilities help your team recover from damage and stay in the fight longer. Different types of healing affect different parts of your formation, so choosing the right one is essential for survival.
For this one I had to bring an outperformance of Venary Crystalsmith. I can't count the time this unit has sustained my tank and bought precious time to victory. I will miss her so much in modern when she rotates out as he is a no brainer move for 4 mana battle
Armor is the first layer of defense, absorbing melee and ranged attacks before they reach a unit’s health. Some abilities enhance armor durability, making monsters even more resistant.
🛡️ Protect – Grants +2 armor to all allies, adding an extra layer of protection.
🔧 Repair – Restores lost armor each round, helping tanks survive longer.
🔮 Void Armor – Prevents magic attacks from bypassing armor, forcing mages to break through armor first.
💡 Pro Tip: Combining Protect and Repair can create a nearly indestructible armor build, making your team last much longer in battle! 🏆🛡️
For my last one I will share one of my favorites combats armies lead by Possibilus where I bring a couple of repairs with Mantaroth and Merdaali battle
Now that we’ve looked at defensive tactics, I want to hear from you! 🚀
