In the last month, I did a lot of changes within the company administration. I worked on my excel files in a way that allows the administrator to save 5h per week. Yes, it's that much. I was amazed. Especially since the administrator is me now, yet again. With Lily gone, I can use the distraction, and Danny has to focus on his restaurant. But it leaves one bad part:

Concentration of workload.

Between Danny and I, we were able to replace each other easily. Vacation, sickness, whatever, we managed. Now, with him and our salesman gone (he quit 2 months ago), I have quite the schedule. What if I fall sick? So, I have to look for a new person to work with us. And that is not easy.

Work for money vs. money for work.

What I encountered many times it that people ask for work, but they're meaning money. They don't necessarily want to work, but they need to work to make money. Which is understandable, but in my experience nothe right attitude. They tend to quit jobs quickly, have little loyalty, and a poor work performance. Honestly, most of the applicants I encountered are like that.

They lack perspective.

In my non-humble opinion. I experience work as an integral part of life. Work can be many things, not everything has to lead to money - but tell that to capitalism. It'll laugh. And laugh. And laugh. I decided to not hold a grudge against the world I live in, but rather try to adapt while maintaining who I am, and inducing my self into everything I do.

It brought me much.

And to the people that work with me. Those who stuck with me. The guy who's with me for over 8 years now is making more money than even I - because he works three 12h shifts over night. And he has the best attitude. Whenever something goes wrong, he puts himself to investigate why that happened. And then he changes the process or whatever. And the most important thing:

He's proud of this work.

As am I. As are the others that work with me. We take pleasure in doing a great job, and the money is secondary - it seems to come automatically once you're doing a fabulous job. But we're kind of unicorns. It's not easy to work this way. To create a business that works that way, and is economically successful at the same time. I got lucky, too. And most businesses don't work that way, they exploit, and that's why potential employees have that attitude of "work for money." Can't blame them.

It's how they grew up.

And it's deeply embedded into the culture. "Viveza criolla" they call it. A "me first" attitude. There are plenty of exceptions, of course, and those I have to find. And I have to be creative to get there. In times of AI, everyone can make a CV quickly, and apply quickly for whatever, without reading the requirements nor the underlying text. So, to filter those out quickly, I added some challenges.

Hiding the info.

First sentence talks about Pandala as a business. Then it gets into how to apply - use the your full name and the words "sourdough bread" in the E-Mail Topic. Find the E-Mail yourself (it's not in the post). Write a 100 word text about a memory that you have connected to bread in English, not polished by AI, make as many mistakes as you need, we don't care about those, just that it's authentic. And then ending again talking about the business.

Why do I have to do that?

People don't read anymore. They can't follow instructions, either. The job needs some English and the willingness to make mistakes and own them. And learn from them, grow as a person and in self-esteem and hence be proud of their work.

The money will come with that. I'll make sure of it.
