Recount on the times when you had to handle loss in your business. Did you freak out? Did you end up in a state of depression? Did you blame yourself for investing all you had in that business? If your options aren't here,just fix it as you read this because I can definitely relate to it.
A friend of mine is a passionate fashion designer, who happened to have catapulted her business to a big level with all the savings she had from her university days. I know some of us will consider this a very brave decision while some might think she did too much of using all she had to invest in her business. Let's not blame her yet because some of us might find ourselves in this writeup as you read further.
Forward to one year later,my friend's business went down as a result of what some would have called lack of focus or maybe lack of consistency. She thought it might have been the distractions that came along the road, some of her team members said she was giving little or no attention to the business after two months into it.
The truth is, if we all are going to make business thrive in our hands,we definitely need to strike a balance between what you might refer to as emotions and always wanting to cut down your actual profit to look the best in the eyes of unsatisfied customers. Business should not be done by those who cannot tell when emotions should be set aside and be critical and calculating. The business world is not a place of sentiments, it is either you are in to succeed or you are in to keep making one million losses every time.
Backtrack to my friend's business which didn't take long before it went down. This is what I personally got from it and what I consciously took out time to learn about business. The first thing is;
Let's take the scenario of an intern nurse who wants to take upon herself the job of operating on a sick patient. It is very possible that she doesn't know much on that aspect yet and she will definitely flop at it.
So,good knowledge that has been gathered overtime safes us from future mistakes.
Let your customers know that you don't only care about their money but you are also concern about want they are buying.
I think it also put business owners in a position to do better and look for new ways to stay in business.
I have had to want to patronize a particular brand but later have to recall the way I was received the last time I patronized that brand. To be sincere, if a particular brand gets to treat me badly, I don't get to go back to that brand.
Understanding people is a crucial key in building a successful business/brand. It has never been said that a brand succeeded without first giving a good character to the public. No one wants to be treated wrongly with their money.
