The world today is overly dependent on the internet. Little wonder the term global village is used in referring to the internet. The internet offers numerous streams of engagement that we find ourselves locked in all day. Is there anything that's not online today?
Be it trading, chatting, banking, communication, education and more, all can be found online. There are even digital skills that one can engage in to earn good money online with. But what if and that's a big if, the internet crashes one day and we lost it. No more access to our favourite online spaces and all, how would we cope?
Do I have practical skills that I can fall back to if I lose the internet?
I'm glad to announce my answer which is a big yes. Before the internet, we humans were living our lives. Although not at its peak as we are presently doing in this age, but living all the same. This goes to prove that man can keep existing without the internet.
My first money making skill would be hair making. Hair making involves the ability to make women's hair into beautiful styles. I learnt this skill as a teenager while attending secondary school. Although I never really monetized the skill, I only use it personally on close friends and relatives especially on my daughter. I prefer making her hair myself as that creates mommy daughter time for us. With the internet gone, I'll hone this skill to start up my business with it.
The second skill I have up my sleeves that would also fetch me money if I harness it is baking. I learnt this skill in the year 2017 when I newly moved to my current location. I wanted something to do and so I enrolled for a skill acquisition program. There were numerous skills available like bead making, shoe making and more but I chose baking (it's the foodie in me that caused it).
So far after acquiring this skill, I have not monetized it either. I only make use of this skill at home to entertain guests or for special occasions like birthdays, Christmas and Thanksgivings. Once the internet is no more, then it's time for Madam Baker to show up.
The next skill that I'd ultimately love to go back to is book merchandizing. I picked up this skill as I worked with various privately owned schools and I have over a decade expecrience in this skill. Book merchandising involves buying large volumes of books from authors and re-selling them to customers in retail forms.
With the internet evolving daily, hardcopy books are now shunned for e-books and soft copies because it is easy to carry around and to read on the go. But with the loss of the internet, people would have no choice but to fall back on getting hard copy books. This will in turn boost production and sales of books and also increasing the awareness of book vendors.
I also believe that this would turn out to be for the best especially for those students who solely rely on Chat GPT and Meta Ai to do their assignments for them. They would have no choice but to buy books, read the books, make research on their given topics before doing their assignments.
There are still some that I can talk about like teaching, cloth laundrying, food selling and more but lete stick with the ones I explained above and I'm sure that I won't lack money if I lose the internet.
