Greetings to all hivians and every lady here in this community. It's always a joy to be with you all.
Yesterday was February 14th, a day globally recognized as "Valentine's day" aka "the love day". I find this so hilarious because I feel relegating just a day to show love is absurd.
Ok, someone said, it's a day for lover's to express themselves by going out of their way to show love to their partners. This statement got me thinking, "do I wait until a specific day in the year before I do something nice for the one I claim to love and care about?"
I believe this is a question that needs to be thrashed out in our core. We all need to understand the concept of love and that is, Love is selfless, pure, boundless and true. Love always seeks the good of the other person. Love does not come with conditions and it seeks the growth of the other person.
"Love your neighbour as you love yourself".
This is a biblical principle that has guided my life for many years and counting. I don't wait for a special occasion to do something thoughtful for someone. I know and understand that love is better expressed than said.
It could be in the form of a phone call, sending a text message, a video call or chatting with someone. It can also include buying gifts, spending time with someone or simply asking "How are you today?" What matters to me is that the gesture is borne out of a right motive and aims to show someone that I care for them.
Personally, I could pay someone a visit and assist them to do certain chores like washing or cooking without being asked. I recall a particular Sunday in January, we had held a meeting at church right after close of service. The meeting scheduled for just thirty minutes, ended up running for two hours because some of "us" were indecisive. By the time the meeting ended and we dismissed, I noticed that a lady was feeling weak as she walked home. I went home and warmed up some food and took it to her place.
When she opened the food flask and saw the food, it was like her weak cells came back to life. She immediately began to dig in and later when she returned the flask to me she said
"Thank you, this came at the right time".
That simple statement warmed my heart. Grand gestures are welcomed and a plus but it's the simple things that truly touch the heart.
I also show care by sending prayers of encouragement and support on a weekly basis either via text or a chat. I usually look for ways to put a smile on the faces of those around me and I strongly believe that this is what we should be doing. The world is filled with horrors, haters, corruption and lots of injustice. If I can't eradicate the problem, the least I can do is not to be an addition to these global problem.
We can make an impact when we look beyond ourselves and choose to do things for others, not because it's a special occasion alone but simply because you care.
I believe everyday should be Valentine's day
