Not for the first time, I've thought about there being a second me. There's been times in which I'd rather have sent a proxy than go myself; it would have been nice to have someone else take the pain of situations in life that haven't always been pleasant...but would it be right to subject a clone of myself to such things? Is not that clone an exact version of myself and therefore susceptible to the same pain, heartache and sorrow I, myself, feel? Is she not me, and me her?
No, should I have a weekend with a clone of myself it would be spent in positive ways, together, doing things we love.
The image is me...and my clone.
The weekend would start like most others; on Friday night.
An early bath, right after getting home from work, would set the tone nicely. Don't ask me how two of me would fit in the bath, just assume it's possible...and not at all odd.
After lazing in a hot bath filled with scented oils and bubbles and surrounded by lit candles whilst listening to soft music we'd towel off, all-over moisturise and spray on some Victoria's Secret body mist then snuggle into our respective robes after pulling on a little bra and panties set that accentuates our curves perfectly. Thank you Victoria's Secret.
By then it's dinner time, something simple like a bowl of soup and crusty bread, which we eat whilst discussing what we might do over the weekend. Friday night's are for relaxing so we read, listen to music and enjoy the break between the working week and the weekend. Later, a cup of tea and vanilla cupcake each then it's bed time.
As the light goes off we're both excited about the weekend we've planned, but soon are fast asleep.
Saturday morning begins with the same tousled hair and identical wake-up-no-makeup smiles. As we eat our breakfast and sip brewed coffee we chat, both finishing the other's sentences - Unsurprising though, we're one and the same after all.
We avoid the urge to dress exactly the same to mess with people's heads and are out the door soon enough: Flowing summer dresses, cowgirl boots and blonde hair flying free.
You look casually fine Becca, I compliment the other me with a smile.
As do you Becca, she says in return, and satisfied we both look adorable, we hit the street to start the day.
It's all about art today, we love to draw and paint in water colors and spending time at the Louvre and Mus茅e de l'Orangerie is my idea of a good time and, unsurprisingly, so does my clone. We wander aimlessly enjoying the artworks, sometimes commenting the exact same thing at the same time...and drawing looks from others around in the process.
By mid afternoon we decide it's time for lunch, a baguette and soda from a favourite little caf茅 in the Tuileries Garden. We find a bench, eat, and watch the world go by enjoying the late spring sunshine.
The afternoon is spent gathering items for dinner: Cold cuts, olives, little stuffed peppers, two cheeses, a tub of dip and a crusty breadstick. We swing past my favourite patisserie and pick up two deserts, the same of course, and head back to the apartment to get settled in for the night.
Another bath, there's always baths, more Victoria's Secret, snuggly robes, dinner, movies, pastries and tea in that order. There was no disagreement on what happened and when, why would there be? She is me and I am her.
Sunday began predictably with a sleep in.
It was a little grey outside, so we breakfasted for longer than usual then sat out on the balcony wrapped in blankets reading and sipping tea whilst the clouds moved on their way.
By early afternoon it was sunny with only a few clouds left in the sky and we found ourselves in the botanical gardens wandering the less-used trails touching leaves and flowers as we went. We didn't need to talk, being close with nature was enough; words sometimes seem unnecessary. The birds seemed happy too, their mood mirroring our own, and we all seemed content just to be there, and there we remained for a while.
Lunch was funny, we were befriended by two young men who thought to try their luck with the twins.
They tried their hardest to impress us, but a girl can only listen to so many corny pick up lines from boys playing at being men, and besides, our hearts are spoken for, freely given to another for safe keeping.
The two young men soon decided to ply their charms elsewhere and we were left alone again. Hmm, the episode raised an interesting thought though. My man was away working for the weekend but we laughed at the different scenarios around there being two of us when he came home and how that would go. We'd feel sorry for him as having to deal with the two of us might just be the end of him. We made up scenarios and giggled about them for a little while.
It was a nice day overall and as we settled in back home we began to reflect on our weekend. I felt just a little sad as I'd lose my clone at the stroke of midnight and wasn't sure if we'd see each other again. It was silly though, as she was me and I was her and what I felt and experienced and felt so did she.
I didn't feel her leave. There was no sense of loss or abandonment, no sadness though I thought there might be. I knew she was still with me and would continue to be. I thought about our time together and how much fun we had and knew we would do so again because I knew she was inside me looking for those beautiful moments, the experiences and the happy life, I was looking for also.
