I have a keen sense of focus and when I'm on a mission, looking for something or doing something that I want to do well, my attention is fixed on that thing...I cannot be distracted...
OK, that's a lie.
Sure, I'm a focused person and have the ability to remain fixed on a task or outcome however sometimes that focus shifts and I can become somewhat distracted by other things...Just such a thing happened today.
I've been out with my mum, a little run into the country for a Mother's Day lunch and a wander around the shops. It was a lovely day, blue skies and very temperate, lunch was beautiful and I got to spend some valuable time with my terminally ill mother. Moments like this are priceless.
I had a mission also however, a gift for my man because he deserves it and I like getting him something nice for no reason now and then.
There was a shop I wanted to look at, homewares, ornaments, curiosities and well...many things.
Most is imported from Italy and Belgium and is of top quality but well priced and I'd heard about the shop through a girlfriend who said it was all very nice. They have a range of leather products too, bound notebooks, boxes of assorted shapes and sizes and things like that. It's those I wanted to see, although once at the shop realised there was so many options to choose from.
My man has an office at home filled with adornments and interesting items he likes to keep around. He isn't a hoarder however he loves old things and his office space is an eclectic mix of items made of wood, metal, glass and leather and it gives the office a lovely quaint and homely feel whilst making it feel like an adventure; like, what will I see over here and where is it from, sort of feel. It's lovely, and very him.
As I wandered I found many things that might work but nothing jumped out for me and I began to lose heart thinking I'd not find the ideal thing...and then I began to get distracted by things I'd like to have!
Unfortunately for my man-thing mission the distraction took hold and all of a sudden I was looking for Becca-things I'd like and would want to have. Oops.
Before I knew it, I was more than a little distracted and was looking at pretty homewares, fragranced candles, bed socks, cute dresses, linen, cushions, tableware, teddy bears...you get the idea. Mum and I went from shop to shop and it was such a lovely afternoon. Sure, now and then I'd see something I'd like to give my man, but, oh my, all those lovely things I wanted.
My guy and I don't go without what we need but don't always simply buy what we want so...yes, I walked out empty handed. Ok, not really...I bought a rose-scented fragrance diffuser, but it was 70% off retail and that's a bargain! Alas, my mission was a failure as far as something for my lovely guy and I felt a little guilty. It's ok though, I have an idea for something I think he'll love and tomorrow will go and check that out...unless I get distracted and buy a cute dress or something.
