Cervical cancer kills thousands of women in a year, unfortunately many even die without knowing that is cervical cancer that killed them.
Lets discuss about it today in my writeup.
We will get to know what is cervical cancer, what causes it, how it can be diagnosed and how it can be prevented, lets go.
What is cervical cancer?
Simple put cervical cancer is the cancer that occurs in the cervix and it occurs when the cells around the cervix becomes procancerous and if not treated it becomes dangerous and life threatening.
There are two major types of cervical cancer, one is known as
squamous cell carcinomas while the other is known as adenocarcinomas.
Cervix is where a baby grows during pregnancy and that opening connects the uterus and the vagina, so this place is covered with cells and those cells when they become procancerous that is what is known as cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer is so common that more than 16000 women at the age of 35-44 are been diagnosed cervical cancer each day, and 6000 out of that 16000 die every year, so this is not a disease to joke about.
Most times cervical has no sign or symptom but at some point the woman might start developing some symptoms like
Watery or bloody discharge.
They might start bleeding after intercourse even though they might have entered menopause or its not time for their monthly period.
Monthly period will last longer than normal menstrual flow.
In some women they feel pain while urinating while others feel pain in the pelvic abdomen.
What are the causes of cervical cancer?
Cervical cancer is caused by a virus known as HPV (Human papillomavirus) and its a sexual transmitted virus, it can spread through any form of sex either oral, anal or through the vagina.
Most times if the immune system is very strong it will fight against this virus but once the immune system is low the symptoms will show and an immediate medical assistant is needed.
Diagnosis
Regular screening is very important for every woman so as to detect this problem early and give treatment for it because this sickness develops slowly and can take time before symptoms becomes obvious.
To get proper diagnosis a pap smear test is done by a professional scientist, during the test some samples are collected from the cervix to know if there is any sign of cancer.colposcopy can also be done.
HPV test can be done to get more confirmation before treatment, a biopsy can also be done for more confirmation.
Finally a gyneacologist will do proper examination on the womans cervix through the vagina.
Futher test to check the liver and kidney will be necessary, after all this checs treatment will commence.
Preventive measures
All women should take HPV vaccine if possible, and have a regular screening.
Another preventive measures is by avoiding illicit sex and stick to one sexual partner.
Smoking can also cause cervical cancer so it is encouraged that women should avoid smoking.
Conclusion
Cervical cancer affects child bearing because during most treatment of cervical cancer the womb is automatically removed and this hinders the woman from having children.
Radiotherapy and chemotherapy done during the treatment also affects the womb and will hinder the woman from having a baby.
Every woman has the responsibility of taking care of her body and this should start from thier teen age, mothers are encouraged to educate thier female children so that they won't be a victim of any sexual transmitted disease or any harmful sickness that might affect thier life in the future.
Thank you all for stopping by.
