I have been thinking since for a long time now how easy we can trade control for convenience without even realizing it.
Read carefully, imagine an autonomous world where your car drives you to work on its own, you're free to decide what you should eat. Your post camera and TV is constantly scanning you and every device around you is connected to one bigger system.
First it sounds great but why not less stress, fewer accidents and more convenience like everything just works. But now imagine that same system is controlled by someone you don't trust.
Your self driving car is changing its world rather than taking you to your office and you keep asking why. Then the screen pops up and says it's because of something you treated against the government and then take you to the police.
A system where your bank charges you extra cost of something you said casually. You are free to open costs and a lot of people decided that the carbonated drinks you had yesterday is enough for the next two weeks. That is where things now get interesting, right?
So we could really remember when we used to buy memory cards whenever your phone storage was full.
We don't really understand and we keep moving. Do people believe in technology? Because truly technology can make our lives seem very good. But the question is who controls it? How much power do they have over you? And what happens when you disagree with them?
We are so focused on how convenience technology can make our lives that we rarely stop to ask what we might be giving up in exchange for that convenience. And honestly, I think that that is a question we should be asking a lot more.
