Mesa Barrio is one of our favourite places.
In fact we have great memories of coming to this restaurant for lunch after a long day of house hunting and once ordering just desserts.
The last time I wrote about this place was sometime last year, since then they have expanded their hours and menu to include breakfast.
After a long(ish), much anticipated release of the breakfast menu and waiting for the perfect time (which was yesterday for an early Easter treat) we finally made it out.
In terms of selection I have to say it's quite well rounded. There's something light, something for vegans/vegetarians, something for the gluttons (us!) and all of it undoubtedly gourmet. It is after all one of the things we adore about the place, the creative, well cooked and loved food.
Aside from the new menu nothing much has changed (why change it if it's working?).
But there are definitely some new additions.
To be fair I would classify our visit as brunch.
We reserved a table for 10:30 am and I'm pretty sure we waddled out of there around 12pm. Not because the service or the food was late (far from it!) in fact Mesa Barrio has always had great service. One of those places you walk into and feel looked after and at home.
And ya'll know how important service is to me. It's right up there with the food quality.
Hubby started off with coffee while I thought I'd try something different and go with the Banana Smoothie with local Hemp Mylk.
Banana smoothie? With local hemp mylk?
SOLD SOLD AND SOLD!!
And ya'll, it was delicious as.f 馃い馃い
Gimme a jug of this thing!
Of course we had to order two big breakfasts.
Scrambled for moi since I can't have runny eggs. (Thanks a lot bub nugget..)
Poached eggs for Hubby.
Cos why not right?! Doesn't it look delicious?
How plump do those poached eggs look? 馃い馃い And yes, of course they were runny!
With fried haloumi on the side because I just have to order haloumi when it's on the menu.
I can almost hear people asking.
It was brilliant as usual and as expected.
Hubby actually said the spinach and the mushrooms reminded him of how Grandma used to make them. When he said that I could see us becoming breakfast regulars cos when something tastes like Grandma's food you know it's good 馃憣
I agree. Some of it did taste like grandma's food but that bacon. That brown sugar glazed bacon was legit off the hook delish. It's just a sin to have bacon taste that good or have bacon that insanely chunky.
My scrambled was also delicious and the sourdough bread made by the artists at Black Cockatoo (same peeps who made the bread for our Flemish Flavours dip) was fabulous as always.
One would think after all that food we would have had enough. Yeh, nah..
In my defence I'm eating for 2.
I don't know what Hubby's excuse is 馃槈
Like I said earlier we've been here and just ordered dessert. Today the dessert called us...
Seriously. It did. It was an irresistible call and we fell prey and ordered two and I'm glad we didn't share.
I have no words.
Just LOOK AT IT!! Perfection!! 馃い馃い
Ok so no raspberries which was fine because I personally preferred strawberries. What they didn't mention was the macadamias and bits of praline (?) that added so much flavour and texture to an already phenomenal dish.
I savored every. single. bite.
It's like I never wanted to let go of this moment with this bowl of dessert. It was so good I would definitely add it to my dying wish list of food to serve me on my death bed. Feed it to me via a drip I don't care. I gots to have it before I leave my body.
So yeh. We defo waddled out of there yesterday afternoon. Happy, beyond satisfied and totally in foodie heaven, two mouthfuls away from a food coma.
I would so do it again and I'm sure with the holidays upon is we will end up there again and soon.
If you're one of the hordes of people who travelled up the Blue Mountains for Easter break you definitely need to stop by here for a feed.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner or just dessert. These guys have yet to fail me. Hell, even if you just need a drink these guys take their alcohol seriously.
Gourmet soul food + funky modern industrial vibe + gorgeously friendly & attentive staff. What's not to like?
Giving this amazing restaurant a definite 10/10.
