Someone Is Surely Getting Old .. By Another Year Today!
It's Inevitable I Suppose ..
Time will pass and one day I will look back at it all and hopefully be satisfied with the life I had lived and the legacy that I tried to create. I won't be winning any Nobel prizes or writing the next best selling novel, but I do feel like I have accomplished worth while things. I love deeply, I am loved deeply, I've created and I have wept over loss. Most importantly, I have lived the life that was meant for me.. and have enjoyed it.
This is me celebrating birthday #1
Today Is My Birthday..
It marks another year that has come and gone. It has been a rough year, but somewhere in it all, I still find hope and reason. I still cherish life and those who surround and support me in the journey. It feels good and makes me smile when I think of the many friends and family members that let me know they care and appreciate me. I couldn't ask for much more than that this 27th day of January.
The Weekend Is Almost Here ..
And they are calling for a huge snow storm. Just perfect! My plans for doing this or that to celebrate the big day, will just have to wait. That's always a risk when ones birthday falls within a winter month.
I remember a long time ago I had a birthday party and one or two showed up to it out of a dozen that were invited. I was very young. Same scenario.. snow storm. It ruined my hopes of a fun day then, but not this time! This time I have scotch, bourbon and whiskey to help me along. lol.
There was another year when my birthday didn't go as expected. My birthday mail came in shambles. Looked like the post office machine hated me or something.
Despite these small and insignificant things, life is still good.. I have a wife that loves me deeply and a little girl too.. Molly! She thinks I am the man. It's hard not to smile when either one of them walk into the room. They are my light when the world seems dark and my hope in times of despair. I am blessed and never want to take them for granted.
I don't want to forget about the late but great little Pepper.. Although he has moved on and no longer sits and listens to my rambles and thoughts on life, his presence is still felt. Not a day goes by that a memory of him doesn't fill my eyes with tears. I great his little ashes box goodbye everyday when I leave. I miss him so stinkin much. I wish he could be here today to celebrate with me. He will be in my thoughts though.
Time Is My Enemy ..
I want to reflect on the life I have lived so far. I don't want to focus too much on the future knowing it is not guaranteed. Easier said than done sometimes, but I am working at it.
I made a promise to myself several months ago, while speaking at the funeral of a close family member. I promised myself that I would take care of me, attend to what makes me happy, and show those that are close to me that I love them every day. Life should be this simple I think.. Love and be loved, never take a single thing for granted, and remember to take care of myself.
Happy Birthday To Me
Oh.. And a few other cute Molly pictures that didn't make it in to the rest of the post.
“A BIRTHDAY"
"Something continues and I don't know what to call it
though the language is full of suggestions
in the way of language
but they are all anonymous
and it's almost your birthday music next to my bones
these nights we hear the horses running in the rain
it stops and the moon comes out and we are still here
the leaks in the roof go on dripping after the rain has passed
smell of ginger flowers slips through the dark house
down near the sea the slow heart of the beacon flashes
the long way to you is still tied to me but it brought me to you
I keep wanting to give you what is already yours
it is the morning of the mornings together
breath of summer oh my found one
the sleep in the same current and each waking to you
when I open my eyes you are what I wanted to see.”
