Do you ever get overwhelmed with the amount of tasks around house needing done? Every spring I get excited to get to work on my to do list that’s been sitting idle all winter. Most of these things require outside work and decent weather to accomplish. In the fall I had hurt my back and came down with Covid so a lot of those things I would’ve accomplished then or waiting for me the spring.
Now, spring is here! And so is my list of things to do. I tallied it all up in my head and came to the conclusion that I’m not going to be able to get it all done unless I retire now. That’s not going to happen so I guess I’m going to have to pick away at it. We do have a bit more time and money to do it because we aren’t planning on going on any crazy vacations this year. Due to a Molly‘s condition we don’t feel comfortable leaving her with anyone. God for bid anything would happen we would feel terrible not for Molly but more for the person watching her. It’s not fair to leave somebody in charge and expect them to handle the unmentionable. We’ll hang close to home this year and we’re OK with that.
Last weekend the weather was awfully nice so I set aside the full day on Saturday to take care of some yardwork. I started at our front door where there is a lot of plant matter that is overgrown and needed trimmed up and the leaves needed raked out of it. I worked a little bit of the time and eventually made my way around the corner of the house toward the backyard. I trimmed shrubs, raked leaves, pulled weeds, and even removed a few overgrown bushes.
I’m glad I got to it this weekend because a lot of the grasses and perennials were starting to emerge so I had to be careful not to damage the new growth while trimming. I wasn’t expecting to remove any bushes, but they looked pretty bad so I quickly remove them before I had second thoughts. The space is a little empty now but it gives us the opportunity to purchase a new plants and freshen up the landscape. We’ve been wanting to do it anyhow so now is a perfect time.
As you can see it’s a little empty in that photo above, but we will grab something maybe hydrangeas or something like that to put in there. All that’s left is a big pile of debris that I put by the front curb and the city will come around and take it away one of these weeks.

The spring trimming is done, and now I have a bunch of other things to knock off my list. I need to repair the concrete around my Bilco door which is a door leading to my basement. Our front door and garage door needs painted. I need to power wash the front walk and sidewalk. I would like to get some quotes and possibly start some construction on a new rear patio/porch. That’s a big project and will take some time and money so a little more planning then a bucket of paint as involved there. from there the list goes on and on with a bunch of little tasks. There are too many to mention but let me tell you it’s the joy of homeownership!
Today, Molly and I are outside enjoying a cold drink and a breeze on a nice warm summer like day. Maybe tomorrow we can get started on that list! Maybe tomorrow. Lol.
Oh yeah! I almost forgot, every year I find a few bunny nests as I’m cleaning up. This time I found a few but luckily they were not filled with babies. I removed this one because it is in an area which I mow consistently and I have to mow. Otherwise I would’ve left it but They’ll find another spot.
