excellent work scorpi!
I don't think we need to worry too much about the pretenders. If we are displaying earnest intention and getting a positive discussion started, it should be easy enough to attract the right people here and develop a good reputation.
Its good to know what the landscape is like in terms of the use of the word 'charity' though. 24 is not an especially big number... Im very surprised that there arent more, real or otherwise! I guess that leaves us to see how many (if any) of the currently operating authentic goodwill accounts want to join forces or have our input. It seems to me there's plenty of space for a new initiative so if it feels like we need to create our own brand to go ahead with then thats fine. Ideally it would be nice to join forces with the CHARY coin initiative because it seems like quite a bit of legwork has already been done and we might as well focus our efforts together if that gets welcomed.
I think your idea about charitable rewards from competitions is a good one. Again it would be nice to get the input of the CHARY coin tag to find out how that could be utilised. Im a bit shaky on my understanding of how it works but I think the intention is that people doing charitable work on HIVE can use the CHARY hashtag and receive some of the coin as part of their post payout. THEN the idea is that people who want to support charitable efforts in general can purchase CHARY coin on Hive-engine, therefore 'donating' to the charities who theyre buying off. I have no idea how effective this is as a sustainable concept or how but I admire the thinking so perhaps that could be something to suggest to the competition runners.
Either that or maybe you should choose the charity yourself so that you can provably send all donations to that one cause. That way the competition runner can easily include a segment about a specific cause in their competition post as a way to encourage donations.
I guess my general feeling in the long run is that asking people to donate anything significant on a platform where the primary incentive is to accumulate money would be challenging and require a lot more thought.
I personally prefer the routes which utilise the actual mechanics of the platform because I think this whole blockchain social media concept has revolutionary potential for the spread of wealth without having to constantly set back the compassionate everyday folk by asking them to give away their money.
I know its a tough concept, because we are so privileged in the western world and if everyone just gave a bit we could make such a huge difference. The problem is, like I pointed out in the main post, loads of people ACTUALLY ARE giving money, its just that not all of it is channeled appropriately and a lot of public faith has been damaged by big name charities. Hence why a paradigm shift is required and the technology we have here may just provide that opportunity....... if we can ONLY just get all the super smart people on this chain to think about it and work it out! The reality is, that to do that, the ideas probably have to benefit them financially, or benefit the blockchain and the HIVE coin as a whole, which is why we need to think outside the traditional concept of just donating.
Keep up the good work! If a week goes by and we don't get any olive branches from the others, we may have to create a new 'brand' idea. But in the meantime, lets keep reaching out to people who might like this dApp idea.... I really want to know how feasible it is?
I watched that trailer as well, looks like youre highlighting some really important stuff over there. Man, its tragic. Get that documentary edited!!!
