I think the family travel is a result of how much you enjoyed watching smallsteps experience new things and new places. I remember well some of my childhood vacations, and yes they are worth a lot to kids. Lemon Caves in Nevada was awesome, Mt Rushmore, The grand canyon. Just a few. I revisited The Lemon Caves, and Mt Rushmore as an adult, and enjoyed the visits as much as the first time as a kid. Late 60's and early 70's roads were not that great, and a lot of the travel was over gravel roads to get to the Lemon Caves, and they were long roads.

So maybe your heart and brain are saying time to have more wasted time with your wife and daughter.
