...but then again, who does? (Badass Fear Factory lyrics)

My mind was wondering today, one of the side effects of being a self aware individual, and i got to thinking; what would the world I currently exist in be like if I were to die at this very moment?

Yup, another post about death. It's that time of year when we (in the northern hemisphere) are faced with death all around us. Fall is in full swing and mother nature is guiding us to think inward, slow down, and contemplate our own mortality.

I thought about the small things at first, if I were to die right this second....

Someone might notice the wash still in the machine, my unmade bed, the trash can still waiting by the road to be brought back after pick up. But there is something more to this isn’t there?

Thinking about dying was a very good exercise of embracing the present moment. After all, the most important thing is what is happening right now, not what happened yesterday and not what will tomorrow, but what is happening right now.

For a moment I was happy. I had taken the time to embrace the now and tried to enjoy it for a little while, but the moment was fleeting.

Depressive feelings came over me. I was beginning to realize all the things I have missed out on in this life worrying about the past or the future. What a waste.

Then I began to think about it even more. How often have I avoided moments because they were a little stressful or harder than normal?

How much of my children’s childhood have I already missed out on because I was feeling sorry for myself for being tired or overwhelmed?

If I died today, would they remember me as an angry man with a million things on his mind or would they remember me as the loving and comforting father that I try to be?

One thing is certain, there are many areas in my life where I need to work on and the first step is knowing, right?

We are entering another winter in this part of the world and let it be a time for all of us to contemplate this life and our role in it.

Let’s not forget the struggles of those who came before us and those who will follow after us at the same time giving our all in the present moment because that is we were are needed the most!

Be the highest version of yourself!

All the best,
