The beauty of the whole thing lies in the fact that all my friends and connections established over the last couple of years are still here. I wasn't necessarily an early bird on STEEM but to an extent, I participated the best way I could from the very moment I joined here. I was a voluntaryist in the promo-steem community and I and my team built a whole lot of tools to help enhance a massive adoption of STEEM within our geographical confines and beyond.
I have been off the grid as far as posting is concerned for the last couple of months because I have had to devote more time working on some other projects on STEEM in the background and for that purpose, I have a very little time to participate actively with other community members. The truth remains that, I have always been here.
One of the factors that stirred me to write this thought of mine today is a post I read from @darthknight yesterday. I would assert that there are people who would go to any extent just to prove their point even if it costs a bunch of other people their all. Considering the fact that it almost impossible to hold anyone responsible for their actions in this so-called decentralized world, what incentive do we have for those who still do not agree 100% with this idea of blockchain technology.
I say this because what I feel is that, if I was an investor watching from afar to make a move that involves investing in this space. reading such a disturbing post by
@dartknight would be a complete turn-off.
We claim that this place is decentralized and yet over the last few months we have seen various flaws that puts the whole user-base at risk. We have seen the possibilities that money could be lost forever if a person or some group of people decide that's the way they want it to be.
I do appreciate the efforts of the initial top 20 to protect the chain by initiating a temporary fork until an agreement would be reached between themselves and the new ownership. But we see the greed in the heart of the average man playout and one other thing we see is that some people do not respect the persons of feelings of others at all. We see some persons turn a deaf ear to the cry of many and insist that they must have their way even though there are little compromises to be made for the benefit of the most of us.
Now, the implication is that some of us could lose funds invested as a result of trust and faith in an established system just because some people feel someway.
If things remain as such, I'm afraid that the whole idea of decentralization should be reconsidered once more. I also feel that every average user, irrespective of the amount of stake should also be able to help. Other measures should be used to increase the impact of a user's voting abilities and weight. Active users should also be given a voice in this space that way we have fewer spammers to deal with. Lastly, I think we need to have verified accounts based on integrity and contribution to the chain and not just mainly on stake because we have seen that we can have a whole lot of unreasonable individuals or groups with stake that might decide to influence the presence of others negatively.
I leave you with some final thoughts
Decentralization is not synonymous to lawlessness. But we can only achieve that if every concerned individual has the ability to require accountability from bad actors.
Else, decentralization isn't that decentralized after all...
