If you change your way of using smartphones, computers, tablets, and other monitors, you can avoid strain your eyes.
* Why do screens cause eye strain?
Usually, the eye squints 15 times a minute, spreading tears evenly over your eyes, preventing them from drying and irritation. But researchers found that the eye often blinked less than half when reading, watching or playing the screen. In addition, the contrast between the text and the background on which it is written, and the glare emitted from the screen, can be what hurts your eyes more.
* So how do you protect your eyes?
To protect your eyes from the damage caused by the use of screens, you do not need to reduce the time you use the screen; it needs some changes in how you use your hardware, which minimizes damage to your eyes.
- Make sure that the computer screen is 25 inches away from your face, or the length of the arm, keeping the center of the screen under eye level 10-15 degrees.
- Eliminate glare from the screen using a custom screen filter, and you can find it in different types and sizes for all types of computers, phones, and tablets.
- Follow Rule 20-20-20, every 20 minutes, try to look at anything that is at least 20 feet away from you, and for at least 20 seconds.
- Take a long break after every two hours you spend using screens, preferably not less than 15 minutes.
- When you feel dry in your eyes, use artificial tears to moisten them.
- Try moisturizing the air in the room where you often use your computer or any other device, and you can put an air humidifier in this room.
- Make sure that the lighting in your room is adequate, so that your device is not lighter than the surroundings.
- If you use contact lenses, you should give your eyes a break, by wearing your glasses.
- Perform a normal examination, because you may need to use a different pair of glasses when working on a computer.
Adjust your devices to suit your eyes
You can adjust your devices to make them more convenient and less harmful to your eyes, by:
1 - Increase the contrast on the screen.
2. Make the text you want to read larger.
3 - Adjust the lighting of the screen, so that the lighting of the screen more than the lighting in the place you are in, and not darker.
4 - Reduce the color temperature of the screen, which means reducing the degree of Calvin (Klevin) in the device, which reduces the emission of blue in the light emitted from the device, which causes stress to the eye.
