I fear that this is becoming an addiction on my part. There are just some many people waking up daily to debate something, in so form on Reddit.
Oh well.
This time, the topic is data centers in space.

There are over 200 comments under this post and a lot of them are throwing around numbers and reasons why data centers in space just won't work, some are also throwing insults around.
I think it is comical
I think it is comical that people would rather try so hard to be right at proving why something will never work than try to find ways to make it work, for good.
Did you think I was really going to give you some data-backed answer to if data centers in space is unrealistic?
I apologize if I've disappointed you, but we should learn to live above tagging anything as unrealistic or impossible.
What is rather true is that some things will cost more than others to achieve.
Simple!
Everything comes down to costs. The entire reason so much is being invested in AI is because we want to lower the cost of achieving many other things, literally.
It doesn't matter if the ultimate objective is evil or good, reducing the cost of achieving those objectives, is at the center of it all.
Just a few years ago, what we have today with AI was largely "unrealistic."
The success of many things was at some point unrealistic.
So you see, what the costs of getting data centers in space are doesn't really matter. Maybe the proposed timeframes will not be met but we can't say it will never be a reality.
That's a bet one must never make.
