Scamming has become a huge threat in today’s world. The majority of individuals engage in scamming because they believe it is the easiest way to make money without breaking a sweat.
One may feel as though they have lost everything after being scammed. The victim's life is severely damaged, perhaps permanently.
Numerous individuals have lost their possessions, joy, families, and friends. Depression has sometimes led to suicides among victims.
I usually think I can never fall for a scam whenever I hear about one, but I was mistaken. The day I was scammed was like a dream, and I'm hoping someone will shake me out of it.
Here is my experience:
One lovely day, I was viewing my contact's WhatsApp status when I came across a written status (triple your money by depositing any amount) from one of the WhatsApp TV accounts that I subscribed to.
At first I snubbed the status, but after I viewed the next status with some screenshots of some people that had received triple the amount they had put in, it sounded genuine.
Without hesitating, I chose to try it out. I sent a message to the WhatsApp TV account's owner to confirm its legitimacy. I immediately sent N20,000 in the hopes of getting N60,000 back.
He sent me a message a short while later, telling me to check my balance. When I replied that I hadn't received any alerts, he suggested that it might be my bank's network.
I counted the minutes and hours until I was unable to wait any longer for the miraculous credit alert. When I tried to DM the guy but saw that he had already blocked me, I realized I had been duped.
My heart hurt, and I wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn't come. I was grumpy all week, and since I'm too ashamed to tell anyone, I always say "nothing was wrong with me" when people ask me why.
Since the occurrence, my feeling of trust has been damaged, and I have taken precautions to prevent being duped again.
In order to prevent falling into a scammer’s trap again, I increased my level of caution whenever I got a call, message, or email from someone I knew as well as someone I didn't.
