Hello everyone. Hope you're enjoying your weekend. This weekend I'll be participating in @galenkp's weekend engagement contest (as I've done for the last two weekends or so). I'll be answering option one which says
Tell us what your hobby is, why you enjoy it, how you do it and what you need to make it happen, what's involved, how it makes you feel when engaging with it or anything else you'd like to share about it. Blogging on hive and playing Splinterlands is excluded from the topic.
Over the years I've had lots of hobbies such as, playing football, table tennis, reading books, playing video games (still havent been able to put my gaming passion into play to earn), watching movies, and so on. But today I'll be focusing more on one of my newest hobbies, (if you've read my previous blogs you should know what it is) which is shoemaking.

It all started about six months ago or so. The lockdown had been eased and it didn't look like school would be resuming for a while (atleast not physically). I was already getting tired of basically doing nothing all day, so I decided I'd learn a craft.
Shoemaking wasn't actually my first choice. Initially I'd thought of barbing and plaiting hair, then my parents also brought forth the idea of metalworks. But then, one of my cousins brought forth the idea of shoemaking and I immediately decided I'd go for it instead. I like the idea of using materials to make things from scratch so it was definitely the right choice for me. I spent a couple bucks for a year long shoe-making training and it's been nothing but thrilling ever since.
Its really hard to put some feelings into words but there's just this satisfaction that comes with wearing, or seeing someone wear something that you created. Then there's also the fact that It makes me feel like I can do anything. You're probably wondering how shoe-making can make me feel that way. You see, whenever I look at a really difficult design and then I create it, i get so excited and I just feel so good about myself. I feel so powerful and at that time, It's like I'm the best in the world.
Whenever I'm less busy or have no major assignments to do, I often gather a few resources, buy materials and make footwear for either myself or my family.
People who see hand made shoes online or anywhere for that matter will probably be thinking shoe-making is hard. But you see, shoe-making is not hard at all. All you need to do is have the right materials and tools, have the knowledge on what to do (or at least someone who does), and follow a bunch of simple steps, (a lot of steps, but simple nonetheless) and you'd be surprised by what you've created.
Here in my country, making footwear is a major source of income for some people, therefore it's something I'd like to continue doing alongside my academics and hive. Who knows, maybe one day I could be one of those few who make a lot of it.
Thank you for reading this post. Your support, feedback, and reblogs are greatly appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
