Do you remember data entry jobs? Then there was website design jobs....they were gone I don't know, maybe 20 years ago. The pure programming jobs stayed...but I think that is threatened in a big way now.
When I can write a decent enough macro with a prompt that typically is a sign :)
When I could start using plotly in python fairly effortlessly, that was a sign :)
So the trend is real. What I am seeing in my line of work, in oil & gas, that they are letting a lot of middle managers go. Funny thing is that we were taught that if you fast track to a management line then you get to higher salary quickly. That is true over the last 20 years. Unfortunately that model is now failed, because middle managers are expensive, and they can be replaced in my line of work. They are getting replaced (in fact replaced is not the right word, they are simply eliminated) everyday.
