The government's safe food authority issued a public notice saying that there was unnecessary confusion about the use of formalin to keep fruits vegetables fresh.
In the notification, efforts have been made to assure people - formalin is only effective on animal protein, so this chemical is not effective at all to keep fruits and vegetables fresh.
Besides, some recent experiments have been quoted as saying that there is no evidence of the use of formalin in food.
Why they decided to reassure the people?
Manzur Morshed Ahmed, a member of the Bangladesh Food and Nutrition Authority, told the BBC that there has been a lot of unnecessary fear among the people due to various ambiguities and misconceptions about the formalin which is needed to be broken.
"People said, Harhasharma said that they have given up eating fruits due to formalin fear, such food-scare is very harmful for public health, so people are being deprived of the excessive essential nutrients in the fruit."
As a result, there is no reason to apply formalin, - says a scientist of the food security authority of the government
Not only that, Morshed Ahmed thinks people's faith in the food of the country is burning up. "In this, food business is being damaged, image of Bangladeshi is going abroad, this image of food is also bad for tourism."
What is the use of formalin vegetable in vegetable?
Manzur Morshed Ahmed, a micro-biologist - says that the solution of formalin or formal-dehydration does not react to vegetables or vegetables anyhow.
He said that formalin only works on animal proteins, by reacting with microscope, creating a kind of 'Mithilin bridge' so that the body does not rot, it has long been kept under formalin solution.
"So there is no benefit by using formalin on vegetables and vegetables, but once we try to do it, we can not see any evidence now."
Morshed Ahmed said that in recent years, with the help of the National Food and Agriculture Organization, samples were collected from different places in the country and they did not get any proof of the use of formalin in vegetables and vegetables.
He said that in some way natural or natural way, fruits or vegetables are made of formalin which is safe for the body.
In Bangladesh, the idea of many people is now late due to the effect and due to their conviction, formalin is applied.
But Morshed Ahmed said that people have no basis for such fear. He said, before the arrival of apples and several fruits which are imported, wax paint is given on these fruits. "Because of the respiration (inhalation or exit), the apples do not rot for many days, and Apple is a fruit that is good for a long time."
This statement of the Bangladesh Food and Drug Administration Professor Md. Nazma Shaheen
He told the BBC that formalin application of vegetables or fruits is meaningless because it does not have any benefit.
"One person needs to eat 400 grams of fruit vegetables every day, but many people avoid them in vain fear ... Many people ask me what do you eat apa?"
But Shahin could not say that formalin is still trying to keep the fish fresh.
Burmese rue in Dhaka market An expert says that formalin was used to prevent rubbing of rice by importing rice from Burma.
He said - In Bangladesh, the use of formalin began when the import of fish from Myanmar started. "They would inject formalin to prevent bacterial infections, and fish firms from Bangladesh started it, and formalin was sold at the grocery stores."
He said that now it is almost closed.
In 2013, the use of formalin in food was banned. At the same time, there is a provision of five years imprisonment and a fine of Tk 20 lakh for any unauthorized chemical application for preservation of food.
After the government created formalin control law in 2015 and its use in food was banned.
