Unfortunately, even in the long term, most of us won’t see major returns on our work. We’re surrounded by trending posts telling you about how to cash out, or showcasing trips taken off Steemit revenue. But consider this – the folks saying Steemit pays big are the ones who have been paid big. This is enough to inspire most people to keep posting. But look at it this way – if a successful actor tells you to follow your dreams and that anyone can be successful with enough hard work, it’s because they were very lucky in getting there! Even with hard work, it takes a lot of luck to achieve our loftiest of goals. If you don’t believe me, take it from comedian Bo Burnham:
Steemit is about creating and curating content for rewards. But at the same time, it isn’t just about the rewards. The rewards for uptucks are great, but they’ve kickstarted something new – a better form of social media. Think about it, you can make much better friendships here because they all start with a level of honesty much higher than usual – how much of what you post here would you put on Facebook, for example? If you start off with a higher level of trust, then a community can grow much closer.
That’s another thing Steemit has going for it – its friendly community. The people here are very welcoming, whether saying hello on your #introduceyourself post, or offering interesting points of views on an academic or social discussion, it seems the Steemers are always polite and friendly, even when having opposing views. We’re all in this together, so why make enemies?
That’s really the heart of it – we’re all in this together. It’s a bit of a collectivist mindset, in that we’re all interested in improving the platform and in turn helping others get rich, so that we can all get rich together. So don’t get down when your post doesn’t shoot to the top of trending, enjoy the likes and comments that it brings. Who knows, if one of your followers gets lucky, maybe they’ll be able to help you out in the future. We can’t all be rich, but that doesn’t mean we can’t gain some friends in the process.
