With the Advent of the General Sale upon us, I had someone ask an interesting question:
On average, would it be worth the $$ to buy Alchemy Potions for all the packs he was planning to buy during the General Sale?
Now, mind you, he wasn't planning on selling any of the cards he got from his packs- because in that case, they are definitely worth it. He was simply considering expected rental income of GF cards vs. RF cards.
So, I ran the numbers....
Given that Alchemy Potions run ~11 DEC/Potion (If you buy with Credits and if you buy 2,500+ at a time)
Then using a simplified drop rate of .74, .20, .04, and .02 for the different Rarities (Assuming Legendary Potions for all packs)
I then estimated that CP/DEC rates would drop to around 500/DEC during the Season and 100/DEC during EOS to project rental incomes.
(of course, some cards rent for well above CP rates but on average- it's not much better than standard CP rates)
Putting all those numbers into a simple spreadsheet, I came up with some results:
Each 'extra' GF card would cost ~550 DEC in potions
Each GF card would produce ~22 additional DEC/Season in rental income, or around a 4% ROI/Season.
This means that Alchemy Potions should have really close to 100% APR/yr, for the first 2yrs and maybe more after that.
In the end, although it was an interesting question given the x25 vs x50 for CP values and the restriction to just increased rental income- the result was the same:
Alchemy Potions are worth it.
