It is hard to say. Hive has a passionate group of leaders who really care about decentralisation and are trying hard to reach an ideological utopia. They will have a dedicated group of followers because of that.

Steem has money through Justin and his empire and they, therefore, have the ability to promote the platform widely and invest in the technology.

If Justin is serious about his investment, we could see Steem grow further as I don't believe enough people actually understand or care about the decentralised ideology. Rather, popularism and utility value will win.
