We all make mistakes, and age has no bearing on that, although one might assume that as we get older we have learnt more and therefore make fewer mistakes; but that depends on each individual and their humility when it comes to learning. I also believe that we are always learning, so a younger person can be wiser than an older one, because they may have gone through experiences that have helped them mature and learn. We all learn from one another, always. Another thing I’ll say is that I have great respect for people who apologise and admit their mistakes, because they’re more genuine, and it’s commendable to acknowledge those mistakes. That’s worthy of respect. For all these reasons, I think you handled it well: you were respectful, you discussed it in private and you didn’t overstep the mark. It’s the other person who should apologise. I love the issue you raised because it happens all the time, everywhere and across all cultures. A big hug!🤗
