The figure of the wolf as an animal totem is fascinating; it is a creature that is loyal to its pack, defends it and watches over it, yet is also capable of travelling alone. Wolves are always associated with the moon, and this is likely because they seek inner knowledge, as the moon represents the unknown, the hidden and the mysterious.

The wolf is instinctive and when it attacks, it always does so in a pack; it is fierce, but also very intelligent, something I admire, and it loves freedom. If we apply the characteristics of this animal to a person, as their power animal, it bestows its faculties upon them, giving them that instinct, that sensuality, yet combined with intelligence. It looks after its family, but in its own eyes it is a free spirit, connected to what lies beyond what is simply visible. These are very interesting characteristics, which is why I love to feature the wolf in my designs.

La figura del lobo como tótem aminal es muy interesante, es un ser que es leal a su manada, la defiende, vela por ella, pero también puede caminar en solitario. Siempre se relaciona a la luna con los lobos y es probable que ello sea porque buscan el conocimiento interior, ya que la luna representa lo desconocido, lo oculto y el misterio.

El lobo es instintivo y cuando ataca siempre lo hace en manada, es feroz, pero también es muy inteligente, cosa que admiro y le gusta la libertad. Si aplicamos las características de este animal a una persona, como su animal de poder, le atribuye sus facultades, dándole ese instinto, ese sexo sentido pero combinado con la inteligencia. Cuida de su familia, pero a su ver es un alma libre, teniendo conexión con lo que está más allá de lo que se ve simplemente. Son características muy interesantes y por eso me encanta traer al lobo en mis diseños.

Design process

The design was created entirely in Photoshop CS6 without the use of AI, using 11 royalty-free images spread across 20 layers.

To create the background, I used two images: one of a watercolour, which I arranged across two layers, adjusting the light and contrast on the top layer; and one of text, which I divided into three parts using Hard Light and Overlay blending modes, then created a further layer of the entire image using Focus Light blending. I placed the image of the coloured patch on three layers in normal mode and in different positions.

I split the forest image in half and placed them on two layers on either side of the design using the ‘Darken’ blend mode, and then the image of the white wolf with the ‘Hard Light’ blend mode over one of the previous ones. In the centre of the design, I placed the images of the folded paper, having first erased the background, and the landscape image with trees over the previous one, both with a darker colour blend. At the top, I placed the moon using the ‘Lighter Colour’ blend mode.

At the bottom right, I placed the black-and-white image of the wolf, using the ‘Darker Colour’ blend mode, and on top of this, in one section, I placed a piece of text on a new layer using the ‘Spot Light’ blend mode.

Finally, I worked on the image of the wolf in profile, to one side of the design, using the spotlight blend, and the image of the woman on two layers with darker and lighter colour blends, the latter applied only to part of the face to highlight the light.

The animation is done completely in After Effects, working on the opacity of each layer and adding lights in the form of clouds for better contrast.

Proceso del diseño

El diseño está realizado completamente en el programa Photoshop CS6 sin uso de IA con 11 imágenes sin derechos de autor distribuidas en 20 capas.

Para elaborar el fondo usé dos imágenes, una de una acuarela la cual dispuse en dos capas y a la de arriba le arreglé la luz y el contraste, y una de un texto o escrito, la cual dividí en tres partes colocando fusiones de luz fuerte y superponer y luego hice una capa más de la imagen entera con la fusión de luz focal. En tres capas coloqué la imagen de la mancha de colores en modo normal y en distintas posiciones.

Con la imagen del bosque la dividí a la mitad y las coloqué en dos capas a cada lado del diseño con la fusión de oscurecer y luego la imagen del lobo blanco con la fusión de luz fuerte sobre una de las anteriores. En el centro del diseño puse las imágenes del papel doblado, borrando previamente el fondo y la imagen del paisaje con árboles sobre la anterior, ambas con fusión de color más oscuro. Arriba dispuse la luna con la fusión de color más claro.

Abajo a la derecha coloqué la imagen en blanco y negro del lobo, usando la fusión de color más oscuro y sobre esta en una parte dispuse un trozo de escrito en una nueva capa con la fusión de luz focal.

Finalmente trabajé la imagen del lobo de perfil, a un lado del diseño con la fusión de luz focal y la imagen de la mujer en dos capas con fusiones de color más oscuro y color más claro, esta última sólo para parte del rostro, realzando la luz.

La animación está realizada completamente en After Effects, trabajando la opacidad de cada capa y agregando luces en forma de nubes para un mejor contraste.
