To put simply, i think i would choose to become a software engineer. It is not just because technology is becoming an important part of our everyday lives, that is far from it but i think its more cos it will give me a skill that allows me to work independently and create something without necessarily having to leave my home every morning. Being able to work almost anywhere i want to is a dream job for me anywhere. I mean considering the cost of fuel, id take a career that will allow me work remotely everyday!. Lol
As someone who is naturally an introvert, I sometimes imagine how convenient it would be to have a job that allows me to concentrate on my work in a quiet environment. I don't mean that I want to avoid people completely, that is even unhealthy but I know that I would enjoy a profession where I can spend hours thinking and working on something without constantly having to interact with people face to face. In most parts of the world today, finding a good job can be a serious challenge. Many young people graduate from universities with certificates and big dreams, only to spend months or even years searching for employment. Some eventually find jobs that have little connection to what they studied, while others settle for whatever opportunity comes their way because they need to survive.
This is one of the reasons I really like software engineering . I mean unlike some traditional professions, where opportunities may be limited to a particular location or employer, software development offers the possibility of working with people and companies from different parts of the world. Someone sitting in a small room in Lagos or even a quiet village can potentially build software for a company operating thousands of kilometres away. I mean how cool is that? Of course, i am not delusional to think its all just beds and roses, i know it is not as easy as it sounds.
Like i have so many ideas for apps i want to develop and things i believe can be of value but i dont even know where to start from and i see people even on this platform developing projects and all and im always like " how cool is that". These may sound like ambitious ideas, but every useful application begins with someone identifying a problem and deciding to do something about it or finding a gap or something of value and trying to pounce on that. I just find that possibility exciting.
I also like the possibility of eventually becoming an entrepreneur or on the flip side having a passive income if whatever you build eventually takes off, i'd take that over working for another company forever, imagine starting with nothing more than an idea and gradually building a product that people are willing to pay for. It would certainly take a lot of effort, but there is something satisfying about the thought of creating something with your own knowledge and watching it grow.
Of course, I know that being an introvert does not automatically mean software engineering is the perfect profession for me. Software engineers still need to communicate with colleagues, understand what clients want, work in teams and sometimes explain complicated technical ideas to people who know nothing about programming. There would also be frustrating days when a program refuses to work, an error seems impossible to find or a project takes much longer than expected. I can imagine spending hours trying to discover why a single line of code is causing an entire application to fail. Still, I think the satisfaction of finally finding the problem would make the struggle worthwhile. The most important thing would be to approach the profession with an open mind and understand that nobody becomes an expert overnight.
