This weeks theme how do you find the strength to keep moving forward when the world tries to make you feel small? To be honest, I don't think there is a straightforward answer to this, but for me, one of the things that keeps me moving is knowing that whatever the circumstance or obstacle i encounter tomorrow will still come. Whatever predicament I find myself in today, tomorrow will arrive. The sun will rise, people will wake up, shops will open, traffic will move, someone will complain about the price of something, somebody will receive good news, somebody will have a terrible day and somehow the world will continue moving.
Sometimes when im going through something difficult, my mind makes the situation feel permanent. You start thinking, “This is it. This is how things are going to be” but if life has taught me anything its that life has a funny way of proving us wrong. If you can think back to a predicament you had a while back and how you felt at that time and compare it to now that youa re no longer in that situation, youd understand what im talking about. The thing that feels enormous today can become something you barely think about a few years from now. I've also realised that people move on with their lives, no matter the circumstance because at the end of the day, the truth is that 99.9% of people dont actually care. Harsh as it may sound, its the truth
Their is actually something freeing about understanding that, at least for me. It means I don't have to allow one moment to define my entire existence. If I fail today, tomorrow still exists. I think we sometimes put too much pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out. We compare our progress to everyone else's and start feeling like we're falling behind. Someone is getting married, someone is making money etc and suddenly our own progress feels insignificant.
I mean the world will constantly give you reasons to feel small if you let it. Social media has just amplified this position and made this even worse because we are constantly seeing other people's highlights while experiencing our own lives in their entirety. We should learn to or should i say i have learned to not be pressured by social media lifestlye, most of the time its even not as glamorous behind the scenes.
As ive earlier said the world will keep moving, whether we are ready for it or not. People will move on with their lives, new problems will appear and new opportunities will come along. So for me the first battle is the battle of the mind, one bad chapter should not define a whole book. I don't need to know exactly the next chapter is going to be. I just need to believe that there is a better chapter ahead and work towards that.
