Happy Thursday everyone! Hope everyone is doing well in crypto land. Over the last week I’ve been going down the proverbial binance rabbit hole. What started out as a journey into defi turned into some interesting lessons in crypto.
Of course I always follow the rules of don’t trust..verify. Frankly, I don’t trust anyone. MetaMask is no different. A few years back I had some troubling issues pertaining to ETH and MetaMask. Suffice it say I don’t store anything of real value within this wallet.
Now interacting within the binance ecosystem I begin using MetaMask again. And of course it only took a few days to realize why I stopped using it in the first place. A malicious token drop was put into my wallet. This token supposedly was worth $60,000 dollars!
Of course I’m not stupid. And frankly I was a little pissed that someone out there would do this to people. Apparently it’s called a dusting scam and it will wipe your entire wallet out. All you got to do is trust the contract sending you the token.
Well no not going to happen. I’ve worked too hard for too little to fall for this shit. Again, some people just want to ruin peoples lives. Not to mention destroying the credibility of crypto as a sector.
So luckily this contract was flagged on binance and my short stack is safe. Again, don’t trust verify. If it seems too good to be true it probably is. Crypto land can be a very dangerous place if you trust the wrong people.
I also had some minor issues with pancake swap as well. But it is to be expected. Luckily there are no issues today. Cub finance has had zero issues to date so this is something to consider if you want to play with defi.
Above all it has been a learning experience. I’ve found many inflationary tokens on binance.
However, I’ve been seriously vetting them due to this scam token contract. My alarm bells have been going off all week.
Blockchain can be a fun place. But, we must remain cautious of everyone. All it takes is a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone. And sometimes you can do all the right things and still get burned.
So going through my records I found a project that I received an airdrop many years ago. The project basically paid tokens to search the internet. It had intrigued me from the very beginning. I participated but later forgot about it.
The project was called Presearch. Basically you earn some tokens for searching the internet. Well the wallet that I thought was lost in fact was found. I knew the stupid password was somewhere.
At the time I was going through a move so lets just say some of my records were lost in the shuffle. Well today I was able to log on. However, it looks like the project is still using ETH with the sky high fees…tsk tsk.
At any rate it feels good to find lost money that is now found. However, the jury is still out on this project. Frankly, do your own due diligence and don’t take advice from random dudes on the net. Since it’s been a few years I may reconsider using the search product.
Maybe I’ll start looking through many of my old records for other lost airdrops. I’ve been in blockchain for so long that I may have some tokens laying around somewhere. And who knows..there may some lost treasure for me waiting to be rediscovered.
I’ll keep looking through my records and see what I find. As they say “you never know”.
