When people self destructs in group settings, its obvious that they feel like the big win will be achieved when they only look out for number one. I was talking to John about this when trying to figure out the psychology of human beings with a penchant for self-destruction. Sure in all situations you need to look out for yourself and your priorities. But rarely does life force you into situations where you have to hurt everyone else to protect yourself. Your growth experience will generally be shared by others in most instances and every day is an opportunity to exhibit both leadership and devotion in your life.
It's very important that throughout the known cosmos mankind realizes that there is more to life than themselves. Everything you do, big or small in life does have effects on your surroundings and the environment at large. Hence there is the basis for cause and effect, or reap and you shall sow; one of the prime tenants of many spiritual doctrines. But beyond the basics, there are also a one-off, or non-repeatable things that can happen to you, which then allow you to experience life in a much deeper level. Anyone who has had such an experience can attest to the power of such events. These synchro-mystical experiences of life, while sometimes rare are proof of the need to explore beyond the physical. Our efforts to protect ourselves shouldn't block our open minded-ness to these happenings; as these events are what show you that you can make progress that is totally unique to you.
While it may seem like a vast blank canvas when you close your eyes, in that void everything also exists. If you think about reality it's clear that in order for all things to exist there must have first been a space for it to exist in. Whether you term this reality "real" or not; it is real to us and therefore important. But what is more important is what we have yet to manifest. The latent potential within every one of us. Our spirits, our wisdom, our hope, or sense of justice and fairness.
We may never get to live in an external utopia, but we can create a personal utopia within our own minds by giving 120 percent every day and following through with our dreams. That's the only way that void between your ears becomes meaningful. Sure many will say that the third eye is just a nonsensical concept. But for people who deeply love, they can feel the heart and body react physically to external events and stimuli. The heart is, in fact, a muscle and the more you love, the more you gain the capacity to love. But love starts with treating yourself well first, in terms of diet, spiritual exercise, exerting yourself vocationally and the like. If you love your own life, others will receive love from osmosis.
