Childhood is the propitious stage in which children should play, it is a right that we as parents must guarantee them and, in this sense, we must provide them with the appropriate spaces, games and toys for them to grow fully and develop skills and competencies for that stage.

If children do not play at this stage of their growth, then when will they do it? It is very painful to see how the childhood of many children is truncated or interrupted by irresponsible adults who use them for illicit acts, forgetting that they are innocent, defenseless, and without malice. And they abandon them in the streets to survive as best they can, thus increasing the social problem, known to all. Many times, behind those children begging for food or money in the streets, there are those heartless parents waiting for what they, with eyes full of innocence and helplessness, can get. This is a sad and touching reality.

With all that needs to be said about this thorny subject, another publication could be written, but, in this one, I want to focus on the importance that we, as parents, should encourage our children to play as a fundamental part of their growth.

As parents, it was always clear to us that we would stimulate our daughter through play, and at home, we always maintained a playful environment for her since she was little and we set up a special space, with all her toys, for her to play freely.

When she was born, the toys we bought had to do with those that meant stimuli for her: colorful mobiles, stuffed animals with textures, musical boxes, among others. Always thinking that, through play, her senses would develop. Then came the games that would help her to stimulate her intelligence and creativity, toys to put together such as blocks, blocks, and simple puzzles.

When she got older, she got dolls, barbies, houses, cars and many more. All these toys were located in the space we prepared. There were no toys scattered all over the house. Through play, she learned to be orderly, disciplined. And I was always looking after her toys, playing with her, and teaching her to take care of them. I selected them and kept them in little boxes, and the others were arranged along the hallway, which was her little corner to play. There, she would spend hours playing, sometimes alone because she was an only child and sometimes with her cousins who were her contemporaries. I loved to watch her playing and imagining stories with her dolls.

We always tried to ensure that she had a happy childhood, a development according to her age, and for this, we helped her a lot with games. We kept up playful activities all the time so that she could have fun. My husband juggled with tangerines, for example, and she laughed and often tried it. We supplemented this with toys. We were careful with the ones we bought and made available to her because our interest was always that she would learn something while playing.

Writing about this topic arose because, in the last few days, I have been going through the boxes in which I keep my daughter's toys. Many memories came to my mind, beautiful moments shared with her. I laughed to myself because my husband, my mom, and my sisters always told me that I took more care of the toys than Sofia herself. But no, what they didn't know was that I taught her to take care of hers, and she learned it very well. Also, I took care of them and kept them with the intention that they would be used by her children. But, as of today, that will not be possible because she left the country, and moving them is impossible. My young nephews and nieces have inherited various and that makes me happy. Now, I am taking them out to give some as gifts, sell others, and, surely, I will look for a way to keep a few.

Finally, what I want with this publication is to make a call for the moms and dads of this community to play with their children, throughout the development of each stage. I want them to know that through play and a beautiful childhood, we can leave a mark of love in the memory of our children and this, at the end of the day, is the most important thing.
