It is no secret … when I have a choice to stay in or go out … I will stay in. But this year I’m working on my firsts and finally breaking that cycle a bit.
So first time no 1. I went to Prague. I took one of those packages they offer at the agency, which are pretty much tested and haven’t changed in the last 15 years or so. 3 days, 2 sleep overs, breakfast included and lots of other trips you have to pay on extra. I wasn’t interested on the extras. I kind of hate them. What happens is you get caught in a hamster’s wheel that keep on rolling and at the end you have no time to breathe. The basic package cost 109 euros and since it was also my friend’s birthday, I decided to drag her along.
We met for coffee beforehand and sort of poked at each other so we didn’t fall asleep by the time of departure. It was after all at 1 am and while I usually don’t have issues with unplanned staying up late, I always get them if it is planned!
The bus ride went by quite fast. I was more or less sleeping or trying to.
We started the whole ordeal at the statue of Saint Venceslav. I did not pay attention while the tour guide passed her holy knowledge on to us. All I cared is I slept like crap, felt like crap, it was cold and windy and I was hungry. So me and Bern’s split from the group, found an exchange and went to look for food. The whole Prague is built to draw you in. The houses, alleys, more alleys, more pretty houses and lots and lots of places where you can spend that money. Food vendors, rich history and culture. It is a death trap. A very pretty one.
This is where we decided to settle in. First one no. 2. I had a duck. No. I have never before eaten a duck. Ducks are cute (they also taste quite good). Supposedly this is quite a traditional meal.
Also super expensive. For my taste that is. The whole center of Prague is expensive as hell. For two meals, 2 cups of coffee and 2 x water we ended up paying around 1200 koruny. Which is … around 50 euros (58$). You can’t get tap water. Nowhere in the center. Smart cookies.
We ended up meeting the group again and it was time to settle in the hotel. It was good enough. I usually never care much for housing since I don’t spend enough time there. The beds were clean, the water was hot, scenery was nice, and that’s all I care about.
First one no. 3. The metro. I liked it. One ride costs 24 koruny (1 euro) which is ok in my book.
First one no 4. Starbucks. Yes. You read right. We don’t have any in my country. The coffee was ok. The toilets were elaborate. Most of the bars, coffee shops and restaurants demand some kind of sacrifice in the form of money just to get a wee in. I felt like I was in an escape room entering that code … and the grand prize was my relieved bladder.
We ended back in the hotel round 10 pm. Tired. Cold. Funny is the temperatures are pretty much the same as here so I blame it on the wind. That one cuts to the bones.
As soon as I leave something happens it seems. New layout again? But on the other hand steemit seems to work better.
