I was on a cruise last month. On the way back me and my friend didn’t want to be bothered with the transport, so we just hired a van (sort of taxi service) to pick us up in Italy. Of course we were not the only Slovenes on that cruise (though there was very few of us) and of course we weren’t the only ones in that van. I and my friend sat at the front, another couple in the back and there were some youngsters in there from some other stop the van did before our pick up.

Yes, I was eavesdropping. The man from the cruise (MC) was talking to this young couple (YC).

YC: So you were on this ship? Oh wow it is huge!
MC: Yes it was great. Very luxurious.
YC: I bet, it sure looks like that.
MC: Yes, the ship has everything, even a golf course, pools and jacuzzis.

I am not known as a spoiled brat but let’s face it ... I think he was laying it on a bit thick there. What he called luxurious I found more or less tacky. And that golf course was maybe a 2x10m patch (that no one used to my knowledge), the pool fit in about 15 people (usually children) and the Jacuzzi supported maybe 5 skinny people who don’t mind touching.

It was fine, but it wasn’t all that. Looking at the girls wistful eyes made me wonder … was he purposely misleading or maybe he genuinely thought this was the top notch. What do I know? My standards and tastes are different. Maybe I am just spoiled.

I actually joined steemit right after this trip. My eyes were not wistful though. I wouldn’t say I am a pessimist… I think it's more emotion based (fear of new). First I weight all the possible damage and then compare pros and cons. I think it is safe to say it takes ages for me to decide on something. Super critical? Yes, but I do acknowledge and appreciate a good thing when I see one. But when I do decide on something, I sit on it like an ox and am pretty much unmovable.

I won’t go into the whole ordeal how I ended up here (since I already mentioned it a few times) but will now finally get to the core of the issue. “Blog/post for money” slogan brings quite a lot of traffic. But what kind?

Are you new? I won’t be drawing that wistful look in your eyes. Steemit is a social platform. Social.

tending to form cooperative and interdependent relationships with others

You will be pumped and flushed with beginner posts, how to do this and that. What size of fonts to use, how to edit, do strategies, make charts, research what people want to read about and ffs add some animated dancing pandas (cuz who doesn’t like dancing pandas?) and you will surely succeed.

They will say the start is slow. Of course the start is slow! Do you twine relationships in mere seconds in real life? It don’t matter if your posts are crème de la crème. If you didn’t knit any ties they won’t be noticed.

Here is MY naked truth. Yes. There is a jacuzzi but only a few people are in it. Occasionally they will splash round their pool and some sprinkle will touch your face. But it is rare and don’t wait on it. The rest of the masses is on a windy deck with no shade and a warm beer. Forget about that jacuzzi. Let go of the charts, stop nervously plucking your brain what else to do for upvotes and leave that panda alone (he needs a break too). Let’s just have that beer (I’ll have coffee since I don’t drink) and relax. We are on a cruise after all. And when you talk to the new young chick don’t sell her any luxurious golf courses.
