Thinning out Baby Carrots

Good day LeoHive Garden folks.

When i sowed a load of #carrot seeds a couple of months or so ago, i dropped a couple of the seeds in each little hole i made in case one did not germinate, but as the #seeds were so tiny sometimes 3-5 seeds were dropped.

Well, a few days ago when i examined them closely it was clear that there are many growing tightly beside each other, as you can maybe see from the first picture below. So, today i decided to thin them out.

Using a narrow paint scraper (it seemed the most suitable tool for the job) i pushed it down into the soil all around each bunch then levered it back while holding the stalks and gently pulling them up. It seemed to work well and did not damage the roots.

Below you can see a bunch of three and another bunch of five which i pulled out.

Next, using a purpose made tool for the job i made deep holes so the carrot roots were not squashed as i transplanted them and squeezed the soil back around each now individual carrot.

i then watered quite well the newly #transplantedcarrots. i've not done them all yet, about fifteen so far and i guess there's at least 50 more to do. i'm pretty sure they will grow a lot better now as they have more space and a deep hole with looser soil.

In the image above you can probably see some of the newly planted carrot stalks and leaves are leaning down.

Hopefully by tomorrow they will have recovered from the surgery and be standing to attention :-)

i only use home made organic fertilisers in the garden (urine and stinging nettle) so these carrots will be very nutritious #OrganicFood.

Wishing you joyful #gardening and good health.
