I turned to high-five Harold as we won another match against the SDF. Well, I won. He had been bummed out since he found out his girlfriend cheated on him, and me and the boys were dealing with it the best way we knew how; booze, video games and pizza.
It was having little to no effect though. I handed the controller to Tony and dropped onto the only chair that wasn’t entirely covered with boxes or bottles. It was a lousy old armchair the Harold and his girlfriend had once picked off the sidewalk and spruced up into something that was only slightly terrible.
When he looked at it, he fell into another wave of light sobbing and asking why this had happened to him. “Who knows” we all answered together, not bothering to give it much thought.
The drone of gunfire sank into the back of my mind as I sank deeper into the armchair. Maybe I do know, I thought to myself.
So I started to muse…
