Hello everyone~~ ^^ How are you?
Here’s my drawing for the Splinterlands Art Contest. I chose the card for this week’s contest about four days ago and worked on the sketch because the card I chose had amazing features so I was thinking how I can make the drawing look amazing. The card I chose is “Queen Mycelia”.
I have drawn this card a long time ago. One time when I only drew using colored pencils and another one when I got a little better at making digital art works. This card is really cool and Something about it always attracts me. I specifically love the red things coming out of her mouth and body. Also the soulless face and expression with her pale skin matches so perfectly. This time I wanted to make something really cool so I worked on the sketch for a day. I erased and drew for hours so I could have a good sketch. I had lots of ideas for this character. I wanted the expression on her face to be heartless and her style to be amazing so i tried different hair styles and designed different dresses.
In the end I decided to draw long hair for her.
After I finished working on the sketch, I immediately started coloring her face and body to see how she would look with that skin color I used. At first, I used gray but didn’t like it so I colored purple to paint the skin and used darker tone for shading. After that, I used lighter tone to highlight parts of her skin. On the forehead, nose and parts of her breast and shoulder. After that I colored her dress, hair and the black thing on her back. I drew hair strands because I wanted her hair to be detailed.
Now it was time to start my favorite part that I was waiting to work on since the beginning and it was drawing the red things coming out of her body. After drawing them, I tried to add more detail on them so I drew some white little lines on it. This way it would look somehow wet and sticky. :D I like the result so much that I decided to draw some coming out of her mouth too. At first I didn’t want to draw them because I thought it would ruin her face. Then I added the shadows of the red things on her body and made the area around her eyes red.
In the end, I wanted to keep the background simple but then I thought I can add some more cool things. So at first I added some blood splashes but then erased it so then I thought of drawing something like the red things around her but it was also too much. Then I decided to draw two red tongues around her and for making it look worse I drew a blade at the end of the tongue. I made the tongues longe because it could be like a scary creature’s tongue. I also added splashes of blood.
And about the brushes I used. I used soft air brush and hard air brush for coloring, shading and highlighting all parts of the drawing and for adding the details I used a light brush. The light brush is perfect for adding details. This time, I drew the hair strands using only this brush. Other than these tree brushes, I used a splash brush for the blood effect.
I hope you liked this portrait as much as I enjoyed working on it. ^^
Now let’s see the progress ^^
