For my first post, I will give a brief introduction to what is heavy metal music with the aid of a periodic table (I know it sounds like chemistry subject but I guess it's kind of complicated like chemistry).

Although I am a fan of Metal and Rock music I have never posted anything about it in Steemit. I guess I am contemplating for a while because I feel kind of outdated to post about metal or rock music because I feel that Steemians mostly not into this type of music. I am a little bit of lost when it comes to mainstream pop music because I was never a fan of it. The music that I listen will normally raise an eyebrow for normal music listeners since most of the music post in steem is about Hip Hop, Pop, R&B and other mainstream pop genres. I do know the existence of popular one like Justin Bieber because of he is all over the internet.

Metal is a genre of music that started somewhere in the early 70s. Most of the bands are from the UK. The main characteristics of metal music are highly amplified and massive sound that incorporates extensive guitar play and loud vocals anchored with energetic drum beats that create loudness in your eardrum. The lyrics often resonates with anything that mainstream music does not cover such as history, war, energy, justice and etc. Although metal has been portrayed as aggression and machoism they are lyrics about love and humour too.

In the late 60s to late 70s, the famous bands were Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Only Black Sabbath has anchored themselves in the heavy metal genre with the other two are more influenced by hard rock, blues and folk music.

During the mid-70s, bands like Judas Priest, Motorhead and Iron Maiden removed the influence of blues and folk music from metal and the heavy metal fans were called 'headbangers' or 'metalheads' to this date.

Thanks to the aggressive styles from the underground scene, a new subgenre of heavy metal called thrash metal broke out and gave us the famous four band such as Metallica, Megadeath, Anthrax and Slayer together with a lesser known subgenre like Black Metal and Death Metal.

In the 90s, the definition has been widely explored and expanded giving new terms such as nu-metal, groove metal and rap metal that can mix with hip-hop and grunge. The famous bands are Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park and Slipknot.

Moving forward from the mid-2000s to now, the heavy metal scenes are represented by metalcore bands such as Trivium and Asking Alexandria.

For now, this is the general history and information of heavy metal or metal music. I will post more on the subgenre of metal music with some of my favourite songs with the exception of Black and death metal of course since I am not really a fan of it. I wish Steem would be a good platform for me to share about my music interest and hopefully can get some metalhead steemian friends along the way like steamkeupon@steamkeupon, worldofmusic@worldofmusic and brumest@brumest.

I am a proud metalhead.
