Synth-80

Been demoing Synth-80 for a few days and it genuinely surprised me. It is a straight emulation of the Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter, specifically the Rev 4 board, and the dev went deep on the analysis. Over 100 automated measurement programs sweeping every parameter of the real hardware, so side by side most people would struggle to tell which is which.

The interface is bare-bones on purpose, every parameter on one screen and no modulation matrix rabbit holes. Hovering a knob highlights what module it connects to, which is a nice touch if you are still learning subtractive stuff.

The effects are the sleeper hit for me. Four different chorus models including a Dimension D style one, and the whole FX rack splits off as its own plugin, so you can run other audio through it. There is also a reverb with hall, plate and room algorithms and a compressor based on his ZeroComp.

It is on sale right now at $59, down from $99, through the end of October. Version 1.0.22, 530+ factory presets, and it talks to a real MKS-80 over MIDI for patch dumps if you are lucky enough to own one. VST3, AU and AAX plus standalone. If you are after that 80s analog sound without hardware prices, it is worth the demo at least.
