I feel like 'Polite Discourse' has been put into affect less frequently due to the 'Last Word' mentality, where the person who gets the last word is 'correct' despite the fact of the matter.
This of course boils down to those four letter words to quickly retort before getting shut down. Longer phrased insults are rarer in todays conversations but are definitely memorable when heard.
Some actually take a moment to set aside the conversation to admire the longer phrased insult before getting back into the topic with a quick four letter word. It's happened to me and a few others before.
Of course the best way to bring back an artform is to practice it daily in view of many and see if the other participant grows to the challenge or furrows their brow in an attempt to understand what was just said.
Elevation of conversation will probably bring back some witty retorts and might change the subject as a whole if consistent interaction is happening.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the topic of conversation! It was an interesting read.
