I am slacking! I don't like being behind but am often beset by minor things that shouldn't be much a hassle.

  • Day 7

I am amazed how quickly I feel a Journal page when I am inspired to write. It's quite a bit a knowledge (and emotion) being transferred from brain to hand to pen to paper. I never used up a pen in it's entirety before in my life but when I started journaling I have found myself going through pens, losing pens, and being picky about writing utensils since I started this journey. I just want to write and don't want to worry about ink 'bleed', the tip only writing if held at certain angles, the pen being difficult to hold or slippery, I need reliable tools to work with and a solid pen is always handy (Ha!).

I didn't learn cursive as a child. Not because of lack of education but because of lack of personal input. I had work books, I had a teacher, I had a proper pen and pad, I just didn't see the value of writing loopy letters that nobody could read, least of all myself.

I witnessed plenty of adults write cursive but after a few days when they would take another look at it they would have to take a few moments deciphering what they wrote. Almost like their past self created hieroglyphics for the future self. That probably added to my lack of motivation to properly learn such a critical skill. Why would I want to write something in a way that might eventually become unreadable?

But now that I am writing by hand more frequently I understand that cursive is a quicker method to write and it sometimes looks cool on paper. Though I suck at it and often do a blend of cursive and regular spelling to appear like I know what I am doing.

It's worked for me so far and I can still understand what I was writing about due to the mixed nature. Go me!
