Solution :There should be introduction of one year intensive vocational training for secondary school graduates before admission into the tertiary institution. Within this period, they can apply for any of the vocational skills of their interest. This should be make mandatory or prerequisite for gaining admission into the university.on completion of the programme the student should be evaluated by an external body set up by the government, if a student should fail to meet up with the standards set by the body such a child should be given extension of six mouths to ensure the student learn the basic of the skills and afterward, obtained a certification should be awarded. At the same time scholarship should be given to the best students. The certificate of vocational training should become one of the main criteria for gaining admission into tertiary institution whether private or public institutes.
It cannot be overemphasized that vocational and technical education is the engine for economic growth. No nation can fight a war without an Army. In the same token, Nigeria cannot develop without well-equipped technical and vocational institutions. Instead of building more and more university, vocational should be establish in each of the state of the federation. This can help 80% work force to develop needed skills for employment possibly self-employed.
After completion of the programme for those who wishes to practice the skills acquire government should help such start, soft loan can be given to them, equipment can be provided at a subsidize rate and they can be attached to a firm to gain further skills with a token given to them every month.
For those who acquire skills in certain aspect of agriculture, the government can laisse with the locals in order to provide them with needed skills and tools for them during training and after training.
This can help diversify the economy, with vocational training those over looked aspect of the economy can be tap into. Many graduate would not have to wait for white collar job to cater for their responsibility to the family, community and national atarge.
