I come from a family of educators. Many of my uncles, including my parents, studied and taught at different educational levels. It is a topic that I often discuss from a critical perspective, especially now that I can superficially recognize how outdated the formal educational system is in my country in recent years.
When we talk about university education, we tend to think that the current academic offer not only does not satisfy the real demand for professionals, but is also unattractive to new students, who prefer to seek technical solutions that allow them to quickly join the job market; something that stopped guaranteeing a university degree after 5 years of study.
And I couldn't agree more with this statement. However, I must acknowledge that, at least in my experience, university education is not reduced to mere academic instruction in classrooms. This is only one part of "university life", which is built from the student's relationship with their institution and with students from other majors.
The critical sense arises from those interactions and experiences that occur in that heterogeneous and changing journey, according to different contexts and experiences. Historically, the UCV has played a crucial role in our society in carrying out the main political projects since its creation.
The Central University of Venezuela is currently fully engaged in the recovery of its physical facilities and administrative restructuring, which included elections for a new rector, after 15 years of the former administration. Something that was a national clamor given the state of deterioration in which the university was mired for more than 10 years. Many reasons exist, but personally I believe none justified its abandonment.
There is still a long way to go. Meanwhile, I try to enjoy a pleasant and solitary walk, since we are in the school vacation period, appreciating the masterful and acclaimed architectural design of Carlos Raúl Villanueva, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The so-called university city remains one of the most emblematic spaces in the capital. A symbol of modern architecture from the Venezuela of the nineteen-fifties of the last century post oil boom.

UCV en reestructuración
Provengo de una familia de educadores. Muchos de mis tíos, incluyendo a mis padres, estudiaron y ejercieron la docencia en diferentes niveles educativos. Es un tema que suelo discutir con frecuencia desde una perspectiva crítica, sobre todo ahora que puedo reconocer de forma superficial lo obsoleto que se encuentra el sistema educativo formal en mi país en estos últimos años.
Cuando hablamos de educación universitaria, solemos pensar que la oferta académica actual no solo no satisface la demanda real de profesionales, sino que también resulta poco atractiva para nuevos estudiantes, que prefieren buscar soluciones técnicas que permitan insertarse rápidamente en el mercado laboral; algo que hace tiempo dejó de garantizar un título universitario después de 5 años de estudios..
Y no puedo estar más de acuerdo con esta afirmación. Sin embargo, debo reconocer que, al menos en mi experiencia, la formación universitaria no se reduce a la mera instrucción académica en las aulas de clases. Esta es solo una parte de la "vida universitaria", que se construye a partir de la relación del estudiante con su institución y con estudiantes de otras carreras.
El sentido crítico nace de esas interacciones y vivencias que se dan en ese recorrido heterogéneo y cambiante, de acuerdo a los distintos contextos y experiencias. La UCV históricamente ha desempeñado un rol crucial en nuestra sociedad en la ejecución de los principales proyectos políticos desde su creación.
Actualmente, la Universidad Central de Venezuela se encuentra en plena recuperación de su planta física y reestructuración administrativa que incluyó elecciones para un nuevo rector, después de 15 años de la antigua gestión. Algo que era un clamor nacional ante el estado de deterioro en el que estaba sumida la universidad por más de 10 años. Muchas razones existen, pero personalmente creo que ninguna justificó su abandono.
Queda aún mucho por recorrer. Mientras tanto, intento disfrutar de un agradable y solitario paseo, ya que estamos en época de vacaciones escolares, apreciando el magistral y aclamado diseño arquitectónico de Carlos Raúl Villanueva, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
La llamada ciudad universitaria sigue siendo uno de los espacios más emblemáticos de la capital. Símbolo de la arquitectura moderna de la Venezuela de los años cincuenta del siglo pasado post boom petrolero.
