After two short rides on Friday and Saturday of last week with my bike, on Sunday, I set out to do the first "big ride" of about 18 km in total, counting both ways.
Sundays are ideal for cycling around the city since there's less traffic and the streets are relatively quiet, creating a generally relaxed atmosphere.
Heading east in the city, it's more common to see people engaging in sports, people of all ages running and walking, and I also spotted a few cycling groups. Perhaps I was a bit unusual on the route, riding solo on my bike for most of the way.
I took some photos during the ride, although not as many as I would have liked since I was still a bit nervous after such a long time without riding a bike. Even though I know the route well, I haven't always done it by bike, and the motor traffic in this city can be intense, so it's always important to stay cautious. There are few bike lanes along the way, so I made only a few rest stops and took advantage to snap some photos.
I traveled along two important avenues in the capital: Libertador Avenue and a good stretch of Francisco de Miranda Avenue. From the latter, I managed to capture some architectural shots of El Rosal, one of the city's prominent commercial and financial districts, on a day with a blue sky, few clouds, and almost nobody on the streets.
The route was physically demanding since this city is an irregular valley with several steep slopes and other slopes that are almost imperceptible to the naked eye but noticeable in the bike's traction.
So the outbound journey was a bit slower and more challenging, while the return was faster and more relaxed, taking advantage of solitary uphill routes. I experienced some physical exhaustion, but I remain very enthusiastic to continue.
