Cocoa is one of the most emblematic crops originating in America and, together with corn and potatoes, they are probably the most widespread in the world.

It is known to be used by the Aztecs, ancient inhabitants of Mexico, who already 3000 years ago prepared xocolatl, the original version of what we consumed as chocolate.

However, the most recent botanical studies place the Amazon region as the place of origin of the cocoa plant, and from there it initially spread throughout the continent.

This perhaps explains the quality of crops in the different regions of Venezuela, intensified in colonial times when cocoa became the country's main export item, associated with the upper economic classes.

From that time remains the traditional way of cultivation and drying in a geography that remains favorable for production rich in diversity that enjoys international fame.

Cacao.

El Cacao es uno de los cultivos más emblemáticos originarios de América y junto al maíz y la papa probablemente sean de los más extendidos en todo el mundo.

Es conocido uso por los Aztecas, antiguos pobladores de México, quienes ya hace 3000 anos preparaban xocolatl, versión originaria de lo que consumíamos nosotros como chocolate.

sin embargo los estudios botánicos más reciente ubican la región amazónica cómo lugar de origen de la planta de cacao, y de ahí extendido en un principio por todo el continente.

Esto quizás explica la calidad de los cultivos en las diferentes regiones de Venezuela, intensificado en la época colonial cuando el Cacao llegó a ser el principal rubro de exportación del país, asociado a las clases económicas altas.

De esa época queda la forma de cultivo y secado tradicional en una geografía que se mantiene favorable para la producción rica en diversidad que goza de fama internacional.
