Am a god on earth! I dictate who lives or dies! Who feeds or starve! Who is free or a slave! I control the fate of everyone and everything! King Dokuso bragged.
For 15 years, he had reigned over the kingdom of Akuba and during these years, he had made war on nearby kingdoms and had brought many of them to their knees. His brutality in war and lack of mercy and bloodlust has made him a demon no king ever wants to face in battle. His kingdom is so vast that he places warlords over many towns to oversee their affairs and ensure the yearly remittance of tributes to him. He was feared by all, and with this fear comes a forced respect. No king dares oppose him but no one dares wage war against him without first trying a peaceful approach.Unfortunately for his neighbours, king Dokuso was not one to dialogue for peace, he prefers to buy it with battle and so many of the kingdom find themselves fighting a war without having any spirit for it. Peace dialogue is only accepted in the kingdom of cowards, he said, real kings buy it with war.
King Dokuso actually had no legitimate claim to the throne, he was a general in the army of Akuba kingdom under the former king, Fikowa. Fikowa was much respected and loved by his people and even neighbouring kingdoms had a very cordial relationship with him but one morning he was found dead on his bed and since his son, Toba was still so young, it was easy for Dokuso to assume the kingship and banished anyone who has the faintest relationship to the throne. He relieved all the former chiefs under the late king of their positions and enacted new laws placing him above even the deities of the land. He proclaimed himself immortal!
Long live the king! Itaba, the chief priest hailed king Dokuso. May the gods make your reign peaceful and prosperous! He added.
The gods are the ones who need my blessings, Itaba. I have threaded where they can't dare set foot! I have penetrated where they guarded! They are just like my subjects! I don't need their inferior blessings! Am the blessing! The king said.
Watch your words king! Itaba said softly. Although the lion may reign as king in the jungle, he cannot deny the authority of the elephant! You have done the gods wrong already by poisoning the former king, now you are spitting in their face. Thread carefully, do not pave the way for your own doom! Itaba added.
Silence old man! King Dokuso barked. One more silly word from you and you will taste the brew of your foolery.
Only the foolish burn down the barn after eating their fill today, forgetting tomorrow has it own stomach! What you have stolen will one day be returned to the rightful owner and when that time comes, nothing will be left to you, even the dust you will bite will still be snatched from your mouth! Do not mock them who shape your fate! Beware! Itaba warned.
Seize this old jackal and lock him up in the cell. Let's see the fool that won't feed tomorrow's stomach. The king ordered.
Itaba was dragged away.
My Prince, the spies have returned. They will report to you after they have rested, Ikodu the head warrior of prince Toba's army said.
Good. I will see them in the morning, Prince Toba said. Good night.
After king Dokuso banished the prince and his mother, they wandered for months in the forests until they were picked up by some men. These men were fugitives who had ran away from various nearby kingdoms king Dokuso had ravaged. On getting to know that Toba was the son of the late good king Fikowa, they have vowed to risk their lives and make sure he regained the throne which was rightfully his.
They had stayed with him for 15 long years and more men got to join them while others stayed within the kingdom as spies.
Over the years, prince Toba had gained the allegiance of most of the warlords the king had placed in different towns and also the allegiance of certain high ranking warriors within the town.
King Dokuso's tyranny and wickedness has bought him a horde of enemies, far more than he bargained for. His pride has made him deaf to the words and cries of his subjects and it has blinded him to see their plights.
Long live my prince, Dako and Rukia the two spies sent to spy the king's town greeted prince Toba.
Welcome my brothers. What news do you bring? The prince asked.
Everything is set your majesty, we are fully ready to strike.
Good. Its time to pay Dokuso back for murdering my father and claiming the throne which is rightfully mine. May the gods grant us victory for we fight for their honor and for what is just, prince Toba said.
Back in the cell, the chief priest Itaba looked up at the sky and smiled. The sky is overcast, and its about to rain freedom. King Dokuso pride has filled his empty ego, and its time for his bloated tyranny to be pricked with the sharp sword of justice from the just!
