My mind raced as the minutes dragged along,
Each second feeling heavier than before.
What words would come when we at last speak?
What changes might this meeting unlock, unlock?
I replayed each action, scrutinized each deed,
Yet found no cause for censure's cutting knife.
Still doubts crept in like vines the walls to seed -
Prompting question upon restless question's rife.
At last the time had come, its toll was through,
Relief and trepidation battled within -
Come what may, the waiting now was through.
Answers soon would end this loop without end.
