Some Memories Never Fade || Our Beautiful Winter Camp Journey Towards Kotal Mountains
Time passes so quickly that a person does not even realize it. In the past we used to have plenty of time to spend a single day. But in todays world, when years pass it feels as if all these events happened just an hour ago.
These are pictures from 2024 taken in the month of January, when we took the children of the Winter Camp on a trip to the mountains for sightseeing and recreation.
WINTER CAMP HIKING ACTIVITY
Every year, a Winter Camp is organized at Fatima Centre where children are taught different things. They are taught manners, respect and other important lessons. These boys have school holidays from December to February, so a Winter Camp is organized for a period of two to three months.
The purpose is to help children enjoy the Winter Camp sessions to the fullest when they are free from school.
Above all this camp is completely different from school life. At school there is a lot of strictness regarding studies. More attention is given to uniforms and other rules and regulations.
But here it is not like that. Children are given freedom and there is no uniform for them. They receive special lessons and different activities are arranged for playing, recreation and entertainment. One of these activities is a trip to the mountains.
Mountain Adventures — Enjoying Nature and Learning Gratitude
Of course, taking such a large number of children to the mountains is not an easy task. That is why during the entire Winter Camp which lasts for two to three months we can arrange this trip only once.
Every year we take the children to the mountains so they can enjoy the beautiful views of nature. A scholar also accompanies us. While we are in the mountains, he tells the children about these beautiful places and encourages them to develop the habit of being thankful for all these blessings.
The Winter Camp of 2025 was truly memorable. When I found these pictures I thought I should talk about them and refresh my old memories.
Managing a Trip with 60–70 Students
There were approximately 10 to 15 staff members who took responsibility for the hiking trip and all the necessary arrangements. Since this is a breakfast program we carry breakfast supplies with us. Around 60 to 70 students also accompany us and their ages range from 8 to 15 years.
Taking care of them, serving them breakfast, arranging sightseeing and recreation for them and helping them enjoy these beautiful places are our responsibilities. We always try our best to protect them from any kind of harm.
Kotal Mountain — A Famous Mountain Near Quetta
Let me also share a short note about this mountain. This is Kotal Mountain, one of the famous mountains in Quetta located very close to our residential area. If we walk for half an hour, we reach the foot of this mountain. After another 30 minutes of hiking we reach the first peak which is called Kotal.
This is our initial destination because there are young children with us and we do not want to take too many risks. That is why we take them to Kotal Mountain every year.
Traditional Breakfast in the Mountains — Tea, Eggs and KOCHA
We look for a good spot where we can safely light a fire, make tea and cook eggs. We also bring some KOCHA (traditional food special for breakfast) with us so we can fully enjoy all these breakfast items together.
As you can see in all these pictures there are different activities taking place. Some people are cooking food, some are waiting for breakfast and the children are playing and enjoying the beautiful natural scenery which is truly wonderful.
