Unbelievable Excitement at London 2012 Olympics

When the Olympics were held in London in 2012 all my family applied for multiple tickets and were unable to get any at all in the first round. In the second round we were luckier and managed to secure tickets to the final day of the C2 canoe slalom.

It turned out to be unbelievably exciting.

Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie, the British pair, went first and remained unbeaten until the last pair, also British, were due to go down. The atmosphere was absolutely electric as we knew we were sure of a gold medal.

This picture is of David Florence and Richard Hounslow as they started out to tackle the rapids and steer through the 23 gates. As they went down the course we had our hearts in our mouths although I was screaming myself hoarse.

As it turned out they fell short of Stott and Baillie's winning time by just 0.306sec but that was enough to secure the silver medal pemission.

This was the first ever canoe-slalom gold to be won by Britain so you can image the celebrations when we bagged silver as well.

What an amazing privilege to have been there and witnessed it!
