From the moon I stared down upon the hidden side of the water
with the sun I smiled and with the moon we were born.
—“In Memoriam,” from The Secret Garden
When the alarm clock rang it was just before five AM in the morning, and Katsuki Bakugo hadn't slept well. For once he had managed to get a decent nights rest and now he wasn't sure if he even wanted to sleep. Not after that nightmare. He rolled onto his stomach and reached for the alarm clock on the bedside table. With a huff he slammed it shut and pulled a pillow over his head.
This had happened multiple times now since they moved into their apartment building. His dreams seemed to be getting more intense, more vivid, and each time were more and more frightening than the last. He knew there was nothing supernatural about it, but still he couldn't stop having nightmares. Even though Deku kept telling him everything would be okay, he didn't know what to believe.
Until one night he slept and was trapped in his dream again. This time he saw Deku, lying on the ground, bleeding out from a massive cut that split open his chest. His shirt was ripped, the blood staining the pale skin of his torso red. His eyes were filled with fear and terror as he lay dying in front of him, screaming bloody murder. Katsuki felt paralyzed by his screams.
He woke up screaming himself, sweat pouring down his face, hands curled up into tight fists. It took several seconds of deep breathing for him to realize the sound he was hearing was only in his own mind. He let out a loud sigh before climbing out of bed. He walked to his bathroom, where he found Deku dead.
